Reliability, the reality?
I have 14.000 km on my 15 R, and except for a few minor things (vertical scratches on door windows due to a poor design of the seals that are now changed and a jerky center vent - all fixed on warranty), it has been problem free.
For me this car is a keeper.

I looked at the car and wanted it. I looked at the warranty and decided I could risk it. I was committing to this as my only car. Daily driving is not a problem if the carrying capacity fits your needs, and reliability has not been an issue.
Collision repair though is an issue. No fault of mine, but my car has been in the body shop almost four months. It's almost done, but I had to choose between a provided rental car or an allowance and arranging my own alternate transportation. I chose the latter. I doubt many F-Type owners quite fit my profile, getting a car like this as a pillar of my utilitarian infrastructure.

I've put 11k miles on it in 9 months. Other than the seat heater blowing fuses (fixed under warranty), speaker rattle (fixed under warranty) and a set of tires (smoked by driver) no issues. Seems just as bullet proof as Toyotas that I've had - but a sh*t ton more fun.
First year reliability better than any other car we've had except for the '83 Honda Prelude and '89 Acura Legend Coupe (probably because my wife was the primary driver on both of those).

A loose earth strap did once leave the car immobilised on my drive.
But, had I not parked it against the wall, getting it to restart would have been a five minute job (the door needed to be opened to get at the ECU).
Other than that, I've had the dealership deal with stereo-related trim rattles, plus some panel fit issues.
For reference, BMW had to replace the entire dash on a previous car after some chimp in the workshop prior to delivery attempted to remove some Torx trim screws with a screwdriver and damaged the dash.

First jag for me so I really didn't know what to expect. I've had three (potential) issues:
- Worse stereo I've had in any car. I got a stereo shop to upgrade the system and added a sub.
- Bottom vertical interior trim pieces on the center console are lose and not firmly attached. Parts on order.
- Some sort of potential fluid leak (discussed on another thread). Parts on order. Dealer didn't specify what was the root cause. I'll be sure to get details once it is fixed.
On a positive note, I'm extremely happy with the driving experience. Averaging about 19.5 US mpg is amazing for a car with this much power and I'm not exactly babying it. Also tires lasting 15k+ miles is very nice. My 09 C63 averaged 15 mpg and rear tires every 7k miles for comparison.

Chiming in....
16,200 in 1 year and one month and 2 days since pickup. Who's counting? Day I got it, drove 3.5 hours to Tahoe. This summer, I did 4200 on a 3 week national park road trip, and yes you can fit you and your wife's luggage in the boot (without the boot rack "Summer 142" that I bought)... I was doing 120 in Montana in 90 degree weather (more like 85-100, but I got up there), and 100 outside of Vegas in 120 degree weather... and the temp gauge never moved. Not once. There have been some conversations whether it is very accurate, though.
It's my daily driver, and I've only had one other car, a '95 Jeep Wrangler. I guess I had a Subaru Forrester with my ex-wife, and that transmission slipped crazy. My wife has a 2011 Mini, and that's fine too.
I'll knock on wood too, but nothing has happened yet. I keep waiting for the oil change light to come on, but since I just crossed 16K I am taking it in for 1st year service.
Zero "real" issues, other than the early manuals had temp parts due to fabrication issues, but they fixed that under warranty. I keep mentioning I am both happy and patient, so things aren't going to bother me like they might someone else. Also I paid cash, and I got the rim and paintless dent repair options, so I've got a lot of peace of mind. What's more, I'm not worried about stuff like the performance seats ruining the dry cleaning/jacket hook and bulkhead, because either this car will end up at the bottom of a lake or in my garage, ie no one is ever going to own this car but me.
Coming from a 1995 truck, I am still flabbergasted that the car doesn't need an oil change until 16K. Mind blowing to me.
Oh.... I drive a lot of really curvy roads, and have an onramp that goes from sea level to 500 feet at a average 12% grade, but at one point 49%.....
.....and I might be a wee bit silly off the line, but the Pirelli's that come with it are, at best, around 10K+ on the rears, but my fronts at 16K seem to have another 3-5K. Pilot Super Sports on the Rear now, and 6000 miles in, they seem like new.
In *my* experience, and others may disagree, both my dealer (who seem super invigorated and pscyhed that Tata's investment gave the UK engineers free reign to do a great job and build awesome, reliable vehicles, especially w/ the F-Pace and F-Type) and Worldwide Jag HQ have been a pleasure to deal with.

Love this F-Type. For being a brand new model, it's unrealistic to expect such perfection as they have created. I've had two issues. Speaker rattle, and passenger side window trim coming up. That's it. Just over one year and 10,000 miles on my F-Type R coupe.
Seriously. I can't believe this car has been so problem free.
I've had many cars, and been on many car forums. Every forum has it's complaints/problems that arise about the cars. Some more than others, but they all have them. The F-Type has almost no problems compared to other vehicle out there. It's an amazing piece of engineering and production quality. And when you factor in it's a new model vehicle since only 2014...it makes it that much better.

Here are the recurring issues:
Bad sound system and associated panel rattling (complaint by many, but JLR seems to be working towards a solution).
Bad fuel filler neck (issue on earlier cars, resolved)
Bad clutch (early production only, resolved)
Paint chipping at seam (less frequent now, but does not appear to be resolved at the factory yet)
Bad adhesive joint on frame (very infrequent).
Bad muffler valves (few reports now).
There are one-offs of other issues (bad engine, SC snout bearing, etc.), but on the whole, the F-Type is a solid product.

....like I said in the other thread; very few issues and (depending on your perspective) no real major ones. Other than the early V6 clutch issue, I'd say that there are zero common driveline issues. ....as Lance said; a few trim issues, stereo complaints, the odd fit and finish thing.

I'm somewhat intrigued with this thread. Worries about reliability? Considering this thread is a few days old what does it say? The only real proof of any cars reliability is years beyond purchase.. 3-4 minimum? If the OP is still around.. please repost in a few years and let the forum know about your experiences. I hope all goes well. Enjoy.
Rattling noise coming from behind driver's seat, never resolved.
Fuel filler problem.. after replacing the unit, I can fill gas now.
CEL codes. Fixed temporarily once the dealer performed an update. CEL has been on for over 5 months now, I don't bother with it.
Battery constantly dying and requiring jump starts.
Dealer claimed the battery was fine and that it was an electronic control unit. Unit was replaced, did nothing. Battery continues to die and must be started daily. I tried the battery reset trick; now my windows have no auto up/down function and the battery still dies on a daily basis.
Rear view camera has cut out a couple times.
Jag still has electrical issues. I will never buy a Jaguar again.
