Replace Battery in F type myself?
I was wondering how start/stop works in 1-battery cars. I guessed maybe they use a supercapacitor to hold up the power bus, but Maxwell sells an 'ultracapacitor' which they say is used to start the engine while the main battery powers the rest of the car. That's one big capacitor...

It's not a question of the battery getting low. It's a question of the 12V bus sagging when the starter is pulling hundreds of amps from the battery. As we all know, Jag electronics are very sensitive to bus voltage; this is how they maintain a stable bus voltage during the restart - isolate the electronics power bus from the starter power bus.
I have disconnected the start/stop battery. Can I completely take it our from the car or does it have some other function?
If you've disconnected it the only function it can provide is ballast ... to slow you down.
I ran with the second battery disconnected for over three years then a few months ago I took it right out of the car and nothing changed at all.
This is a great question. I got my Dealer to disconnect the second battery a couple of years ago while in for service. I never checked if they in fact removed it. But it would make sense to reduce weight.
Dumb question, but if i have my trickle charger hard wired in (as instructed by the other members here), will I have to change anything if I put in a non-OEM battery? Will trickle charging still work the same way as it always has or do batteries such as Antigravity etc.. get screwed up by that? Thanks in advance.
That all depends on what battery you put in the car. If you put in a Antigravity battery or any other Lithium type battery then you MUST use a lithium charger. Any other charger will damage the lithium battery.
Otherwise, if you put in an AGM battery then any standard charger will work on that type.
Your connections are not an issue. What is an issue is what type of battery you have in the car and what charger you are using to charge it.

Replaced battery with interstate agm. Battery died after a few days. I see some battery juice overflowing. Is it because I did it on my own and didn’t reset BMS which over charging the battery?
thanks in advance

Have you ruled out the alternator? Was battery charged prior to install?
one other thing is if you have an obdii reader/device or someone else used the port after the install, it has a parasitic effect until battery has been disconnected for 10 mins or so. maybe remove the negative terminal and give it a shot. otherwise time to bring it to a tech to look at the situation
I struggle to understand why anyone would pay $300 purely for the labour of someone else to install a new battery.
It's a very easy job even for a geriatric like me, I replaced the battery in my F-Type a few months ago with zero hassles and zero problems.
At first I feared I might struggle with lifting the old battery out and the new one in but they were not that heavy or awkward to manoeuvre out and in, job done inside 10 minutes (allowing for waiting 30 minutes after removing the old battery before fitting the new battery, so make sure everything had been fully discharged).

I qualify as geriatric too, and the older I get, the more I enjoy watching other people work. Besides, the waiting room had free coffee and donuts.
