Round Steering Wheel Vs Flat Bottom Steering Owners Perspectives
Wow, I've read you rave about your F-type interior many times. Now that I've seen it, rightly so! 😍
And that’s just in the last 24 hours! And not including countless snacks and such in between. Getting the picture?
It’s a longer story (I won’t bore you or anyone here with it, and since I don’t wish to hijack this thread any further than I’ve already) but if you check out foodmydadeats on Instagram, you can get a better sense of just a fraction of what I eat. Let me be clear—and this goes for my posts here on this excellent forum of ours—I am NOT seeking followers, eyeballs, views, or “likes”. I post on Instagram solely to 1) share these photos with my kid (who started this page in my honor years ago) and 2) if I get one or more persons to go to the places I am posting about…I am happy and it costs me nothing.
And that’s assuming you actually want to see more photos of food?
Best regards,
Jay
P.S. no idea what my cholesterol is!

I got my first Jaaaag (2001 XK8) in 2007 and that and my subsequent three have all been reliable. As you say, a few hiccups along the way but nothing I hadn't experienced in other makes before them. But the unreliabilty reputation does make them used bargains to buy! And maintain - you can treat them like "ordinary" cars as far as maintenance is concerned, assuming you don't treat ordinary cars badly. Parts may be a bit pricey, but I haven't needed many of them - a coolant expansion tank in the XK8 (at 66,000 miles) and a flexible oil pipe in my 2004 XKR (at 90,000 miles). What's not to like?

Cheers to all my friends on your side of the pond Steve. That includes @GGG
🙏

I need to find where I have the documentation saved. In effect, it said that the round steering wheel for the SVR is actually sportier and better for performance driving.
After driving the round and flat back to back the round is better in all around performance. The flat bottom is thicker and the grip bulges are way too big the round without the bulges is lighter and more versatile. Now I understand why the SVR has a round steering wheel without the grip bulges on the earlier models.

How many steering wheel shapes are they? I have never noticed that the round with notches version exists. Also are they thinner/fatter versions of the flat one?
Also, on some photos the leather seems to be shiny and on others matte. Is it only lighting and wear, or are they different leathers?

1. The earlier round with no grips (notches).
2. The flat bottom with grips.
3. The later round with grips (such as fitted to the SVR).
Only ever seen one version of the flat bottomed wheel, the same as I have.
It seems to be a little fatter than the round wheel but that may just be an illusion due to the grips/notches.
The flat bottomed wheel does seem to have much more of a matte leather when compared to the shiny round wheel, and less black / more grey, it is very noticeable when I compare the two, but that may just be due to a build up of skin oil etc on my original round wheel. However I have now had the flat bottomed wheel on the car for some three years and it has not in the slightest started to go shiny, so I reckon they use a different leather.
Three shapes only that I know of or have ever seen including pics:

2. The flat bottom with grips.
3. The later round with grips (such as fitted to the SVR).

Interesting observation about the possible leather differences and I think you're onto something there. My flat bottomed wheel is also still nice and matte and seems to stay matte longer than other steering wheels in previous Jags.
Dunno about original vs later round wheels having never seen a later wheel other than in pics.
