Default seating

Ok now a few weeks in and the headrest is actually designed for a shorter torso than me. Im 6'1" and the base of the "headrest" area peaks right below my shoulder and isn't really comfortable. I believe these seats were designed for a 5"10" torso. My head sits about 2-3" above the top of the seat. Is the brittish average height shorter than the us or german market?

You must have the sport seats and not the performance ones, yes? At 6'1" I have no issues with the performance seats and have a couple inches of headrest to spare above my head.

I had the same experience first in my XKR-S. I have a long torso and felt the head rest pillow on my spine between my shoulder blades. It was extremely noticeable and uncomfortable at first. I have the same seats in the F-Type. That feelling has gone away, I no longer find the head rest pillow too low or uncomfortable. I have become absolutely comfortable with the seats and find them better support than any of the various Porsche seats I had. I have no lower back strain even after several 8 hour driving days in a row.

Perhaps I have a small torso, I've never checked... I can say my head contacts the head rest 3 inches down (I just measured) from the top and I find them very comfortable. Auto makers usually design around the 95th percentile and if you are outside of that for whatever reason, you may find the seats very uncomfortable. This 95th percentile goes beyond just basic height and weight, and includes torso/hip length, width, and girth.

I'm 6'2" with standard sports seats, and the center back of my head, is perfectly located on the center back of the headrest. You must have a really long torso and very short legs.

I have the seat positioned almost all the way back, as low as it will go, and reclined to the max position before hitting the rear bulkhead.

I couldn't have done better if the seat had been custom built to my measurements.

That would suggest that your head is above the top of the seat back (or you have no neck to speak of... )

not really, as the head rest pillow is fairly long and is bolstered all the way down to the 5 point holes in the seat and it pushes on the vertebrea right at the bottom of my neck between the shoulder blades.

Ah - "Performance" seats. My sympathies.

Yours do appear to be remarkably - erm - "bulbous" though?

Not sure I understand the problem. What exactly is uncomfortable. The head restraint goes up to within inches of the headliner, so it should accommodate anyone who fits in the car. Perhaps the performance seat wings are pinching your shoulders together, but the head restraint sits back far enough that it shouldn't be contacting your head, unless you have the seat cranked bolt upright. The top of that seat serves as a restraint, not a headrest.

Yes, I too found the optional performance seats much more uncomfortable but find the std sports seats very nice.

You should get a BMW M5. Best-seats-ever. 22 way adjustable.

Same problem for me.
