Shifting Weirdness
My tranny has developed a mind of it's own. Help!! (2017 Base w/VAP tune.)
In Sport Mode, I'm most comfortable shifting with the lever, not the paddles - my hands aren't always in the right place for the paddles, and I can just slap the lever easily no matter what my left hand is doing :-). I have the VAP chip with a 7100 rev limit. I often do 0-60 pulls (several a day), and shift at 6800-6900. Nothing has changed in the last 10 months, when I had the car in for service and put the factory tune in, then refreshed it after the service.
Yesterday, I was doing a pull and the car shifted for me at 6500, like if it was in Drive Mode. I tested it several times, and it wouldn't go past 6500 and shifted on its own.
WTF?

I'm not familiar with what the VAP tune does for the transmission but it sounds like your transmission adaptations need to be reset. Bouncing between the VAP and stock tune more than likely confused the existing transmission adaptations. Also, as an FYI, even if you go back to the stock tune, JLR will absolutely see that the ECU was modified. There are "flash counters" built in that tracks all that.

I did put it in 1st manually - it just behaves like I didn't. Maybe the sensor on the shifter isn't telling the car I did it manually? Something happened between the day before yesterday and yesterday that I just don't understand.
Four and a half years and this is the second weirdness - the first is that I can get tire hop with traction control fully on (in the wet). The service rep told me this was normal... there went my trust in the dealer.
