Default Rev Limiter

So pulled onto the freeway on-ramp and forgot I had used the paddles in dynamic plus sport and nailed it in second gear.

That's one way to get a lot of pops and crackles when it hits the rev limiter, I thought I had blown it up I nearly **** myself.

Yes, lots of pops and crackles in a really bad sounding way. Too easy to bounce off the rev limiter with an MT. Power curve with the tune gives no indication that you are approaching redline.

Hitting the wrong paddles is also entertaining, in a bad way. I was in 2nd, meant to go to 3rd, but dropped it into first, near the rev limit. Have to say that the transmission handles that pretty gracefully.

LOL, I've done all of the above as well. It's shockingly easy to bounce off the rev limiter, and it is very easy to forget that you're in paddle mode vs. auto shift.

Triggering traction controls makes the car cackle at you as well.

Redline never really bothered me. With the degree to which people have become safety Sallies, I wouldn't be surprised if there's another 1000 RPM's waiting safely beyond the dial. My 89 RX7 could be swapped with a JDM tuned ECU that increased the redline I think 750 RPM's. Granted, it's a rotary.

But even on Mercedes Benzes, you can youtube a guy called 'Pumpish' and he takes those M103/M104's to at least 8000 on stock bottom end. Although, I'd trust an MB engine over Jag any day.

While I've seen the Traction Control light flash, I've also had both rear wheels spinning with no sign of intervention when it's supposedly on...

Then, there's the bit where it's pulling hard towards the red line and I upshift - once - and the revs drop to a little over 5k. And it bogs down.

I would think this was badly spaced ratios, only a downshift doesn't clear it.

The way that Jaguar limit Tourque on these engines remains "interesting"...

Glad to hear I'm not the only one...

The other day on an uphill run after a stoplight, I also was in sport plus dynamic and my fingertips slipped on the upshift paddle enough so it didn't register. Bounced for a bit on the rev-limiter before positively engaging the upshift. I would not call that one of the more graceful sounds this car makes. Glad there weren't too many people around to witness that...

Ok, still getting acquainted with the car. This is my first automatic sports car with paddles as all my previous ones have been stick shift so someone school me real quick. Going off what the manual says and what I have noticed, if you are in Dynamic + Sport Mode the car will not shift by itself and just bounce off the rev limiter. Is that correct? So the only way you can over rev the engine is if you down shift too many gears while in Dynamic + Sport Mode? What about down shifting too many gears in the other modes, Normal S, or D? I know on some cars if you try to select a gear that will cause the engine to over rev the ECU won't let you.
Also in this video at around the 26 second mark is that what hitting the rev limiter sounds like? lol doesn't sound too bad

I don't recommend hitting the rev limiter in 1st gear, sounds like the engine is exploding out the tail pipe. Don't ask me how I know.

In D+S, the transmission will downshift to avoid stalling as you come to a stop - I like that feature.

And you are in manual shift mode, then yes.

The ECU will protect the engine from overrevs. If you downshift and it determines the result would overrev the engine, it will not downshift when you hit the paddle. I do think it's a little conservative on it's downshift protection but it works well. No way to "money shift".

Of course, overrevving with an MT Is possible with a downshift. Interestingly, the VAP tune smoothed out the engine at redline. It just gently loses power just before reaching redline, no fireworks or explosions. No more embarrassments.
