to me, the lever change was dramatic! "How hard could it be" for Jag to change the specs. Probably impossible. Imagine who you have to get to at Jag to consider and approve a change. Thus, the mouse finds the cheese and the cat just looks for the low hanging fruit and mice too fat to run.

Just scheduled my install for Thursday since I don't have a lift. And they are only charging me $100. So worth the time saving. They have done a few mods for me so am confident in their work. Can't wait to see the difference.

I remember reading some (most likely marketing) literature about how much time they spent getting the shifter feel to where they wanted it, including a description of the annular weight on the shifter. Too bad their notion of a perfection on throw is what it is.

I think the annular weight is now just right for the shorter throw. Allows the stick to still move freely despite the reduced mechanical advantage.

Just drove home from having the short shifter installed. WOWSERS. What a difference. Smoother, quicker, more precise. Wish I had it when I was on the track a few weeks ago. It's like a new car.

A ton of thanks to Unhingd for all his hard work. Keep it up!!

I am 1500 hundred miles in to the new shifter in one week!!

Fact: I literally cannot remember the previous throw. At all. It's wiped clear from reality.

Question:

What did you do with the OEM shifter? It sits in a junk drawer forever, or anyone toss it?

Sell it on EBAY. LOL

Goes in the attic with the rest of the OEM parts.

I'm now toying with the idea of fabricating a gate for the shifter.

I was thinking along those lines too. I don't think it'd be that difficult, but I doubt I'll have time in the near future.

Installation would take all of 10 minutes once the piece is fabricated. The gate plate would install in place of the boot. The upper stick would need to be modified for a decent appearance and a different knob would be needed since it is held on firmly with the boot collar. (note to self: finish P7 grille project first).

That mirrors my thinking, although I hadn't gone so far as to consider the knob and a finisher for the shifter. Now that I think about it, the large diameter of the shifter may make the gate look a little odd. My mental picture was of an old Ferrari with a shaft ~10mm in diameter. If the slots in the gate are too wide, I think the cool factor will go down quite a bit.

Now I need to think about it a bit more ...

You may have a good point. The stick is about 15 mm dia. at the level of the console deck.

In my case, that's getting harder all the time.

My hair is still quite lovely and full, but it starts farther back than it used to.

Question: is the gate purely for aesthetics, or is it functional too? I'll skip the aesthetics of expanding foreheads...

Like all else F-Type, it would be the sound, feel ...and aesthetics:
death of the gated shifter

Default Window Clings on the Way

To all my fellow short shifters: The window clings are in the mail to you. They look exactly like my avatar.

BTW, you need to clean the inside of the rear windows occasionally. To apply the cling, I cleaned mine for the first time in almost 2 years and it left the cleaning cloth soot black.

I was driving today and realized the new throw has indeed become second nature. It was a crappy commute, but at least I was in the F-Type.
