Should I choose the F-Type?

My 5 cents: You will love the F-Type. I have not tracked a car since my Lingenfelter C6, but my Jag is just plain enjoyable under all of my current driving conditions. Most of all, it is just beautiful to look at. Yes, Orange. If you like Orange you will love Firesand.
Mine is a 2 year-old R coupe. When you bop out to pass someone on a 2 lane road, it is amazing! I have had a couple of minor warranty issues, nothing big, nothing mechanical. I had as many or more minor issues with my Cayman S. The Porsche just never had the power I really wanted and the service dealer was the pits.
My C6 never had a single problem and the dealer was only a mile away. But I had mod fever, which cost me a bundle. So I have leased since then to assure that I am not tempted to mod. If the C8 is not as ugly as the C7, I might try one.
As said by others, the dealer support network is thin and parts are expensive. The car has not been around long enough for real reliability data, but the current reliability is as good as anything else.
In the end, the F-Type is the nicest car I have ever owned. I think only the Corvette gives you more bang for the buck in the 2 seat realm.

I have had a few BMW M cars in the past. Drove a Carrera 4S when I was also looking at my V8 S.

At the end of the day I was looking for a 2-seat roadster with a V8. I went for a test drive and within 100m I had decided that V8 S it would the one. Back then there were only 3 options. A V6 base, a V6 supercharged, and a V8.

The Porsche was great, as was my old E92 M3 and the two Z4Ms I had. They never made me feel like a 5 year old.

I bought mine in the spring of 2014. This year it will be 4 years. I am itching to take it out of winter storage so that I can feel like a 5 year old again.

I have never wanted a Jaguar or felt drawn to the marque in any particular way. I actually was going to get a V10 R8 but then saw a video review of the V8S in 2013 and said that’s it - my next car. It was just an exciting 2 seat sports car, simple as that nothing more complicated and didn’t require me to buy into any sort of myth or legend of the brand.

Mine has been amazingly reliable. 23k miles in 4 years and the only thing that’s needed replacing is the muffler under warranty. I haven’t had even a single problem other than that.

People go on about reliability of Porsche, BMW etc, simply not true. RMS issues on water cooled 911’s, valve guide wear on air cooled 911’s, VANOS issues on M cars, HPFP problems on other BMW 6 cylinder engines. They are far from bulletproof.

I love the term driving in a "spirited manner" and will have to remember that to use when people think I drive too fast or aggressively.

Reminds me of when they were testing me for ADHD recently and I was surprised that one of the questions was "are you an aggressive driver?" I had to think and my response was that I don't believe so, but that others might disagree. He put that down as a yes.

too funny! .....I'm old and I don't do the things I did when I was young (far more conscious of my safety and the safety of others now) but in safe locations and times, I will do a huge 1st, 2nd gear burnout, powerslides and other tomfoolery.....if I was going to drive around at the speed limit all the time, I would have saved $100,000 and bought a Civic. ;-)

Cheers,
Dave

Oh, I'm also much more careful than when I was younger. My driving factor was always not damaging my car. Now I also consider injury to people as well as damage to car. Considering I got my first speeding ticket the first week I had a license and a car, I think that says it all about what I think of speed limits. I haven't yet had a chance to get out away from others and try some of the really fun/stupid stuff, but once I get more used to the car that is in my plans!

Drove an F-Type today.

2017 F-Type w/the blown 6 banger b/c no local V8 S. It'd take some getting used to looking out the small rear window & those blindspots, oof. I was very impressed with the interior. Even the headliner was leather. Had power adjustable side bolsters on the seats which I love & miss from my previous BMW. That stuff is a big deal for twigs like me that slide around in just about all seats. I like the interior layout and thought the center HVAC vents going into the dash when not in use was cool, but would rather not have that as it's just another thing to break. When resting my hand on the shifter (Automatic) I felt like it might break off in my hand. Obviously, I am exaggerating, but only to get my point across. Overall, I really like it. I'd only buy the V8 S, though. I wish it had cooled seats, though.

Were heated steering wheel and/or cooled seats available on these?

Heated steering wheel has been an option since inception, looks like heated+cooled seats appeared for MY18, according to my brochures.

Have you considered late production Jaguar XKR? Mechanically, they are nearly identical to F-type. They also tend to be cheaper due to depreciation.

Heated seats only on the 14 models. Cooled seats were introduced later with the new seat designs. I only saw it available on the 400 model but I assume the 17MY has them for a premium.

Always had heated but the cooling option was not available until 2018 models. I play a LOT of tennis in the summer and had SWORN that I would NOT buy another car without cooled seats. That restriction was loosened and removed when I test drove the 2017 R so... I bought one even without the cooling feature

Firesand (orange) was only offered for MY14-17, so that's you're starting point. And MY14 was only convertibles.
