Default The Abogato comes up on 40k miles after five great years

Hello all,

Long time lurker and second-time poster. I was motivated to post this morning by realizing that today’s trip will take me over 40k miles in my 2016 vert, and I strangely feel a bit melancholy about it. Like most numbers, it is just an artificial milestone, but it gave me pause to reflect on the last five years. Posting in this thread to show off my plates and some other pics…the car evolved from “El Gato” to later, “Abogato,” at the suggestion of my brother, to combine what I do for a living with the ride that gets me to the office.

I picked up the car after test driving a 2016 RWD manual V6 and AWD V8 at Harper Jaguar in Knoxville (great dealership, btw imo). To my surprise (and disappointment) I really did not like the manual at all as it felt clunky and the throws were too long for my taste. On the other hand, the automatic felt really great, and with the increasingly bad traffic where I live in Nashville, it made sense to opt for paddle shifters. Harper found a 2016 vert that matched most of my specs while it was still on the way to the U.S. on a boat, so I reserved it immediately. Upon receipt, I got the car wrapped with XPEL and finished with C.Quartz coating by Knox Details, and those guys did a really terrific job. It’s been a great ride ever since.

When the lease was up in 2019, I simply couldn’t bring myself to give it up, so I kept it. Not a sound economic decision, but this car was never about pure economics. If it was, I probably would have picked up a Miata, used Boxster or even a used S2000. The only problems I’ve had related to the battery dying on me twice (the last time, after a smog check, which was fixed under warranty, and which motivated me to regularly use a battery tender) and ongoing battles with potholes around here. I have had more flats in the last five years than in my entire life! And last year, I lost one of my rims to a pothole hidden by leaves. Uggh. The only mod I’ve done was to change out the cheap looking “chrome” hoops with carbon fiber replacements---a really nice but expensive cosmetic upgrade. Thinking about doing the side vents as well in the future.

I sort of like the way the car feels for now, but perhaps after the warranty runs, I may do the VAP tune and pulley, who knows. I’ve enjoyed virtually every mile logged in this car and am looking forward to more years of pleasurable rides, especially once the note is paid off!

Jbajor, I really like your rear skirt/diffuser/whatever it is called. I have a base with just that regular black piece and would really like to replace it. Is this aftermarket or an option that came with your S? Please forgive my ignorance, I am a new owner (Nov 2020) and did some searches but have not seen anything like yours. FYI, I have a 2017 Base. Thanks!

That's the Design Pack rear, a factory option for the V6 which was standard on the British Design Edition (BDE).
The Design Pack also included special side skirts and I suspect different front splitters.
I like it a lot (the rear not the side skirts), it can be added later, but it's bloody expensive!

Isn't that just the stock 2021 R diffuser?

That diffuser is bone stock, came that way from the factory on this car...a 2021 F type R. Could it be a diffuser Jag uses only on the F type R model because of the 4 tail pipes....just a wild a$$ed guess.

Two great cars... and no matter how many times I tried to rotate the photo it still shows upside down. But if you click on it, it dummies up.
