Just did mine with a MityVac 7201 last week. Used a black Sharpie to highlight the fluid markings on the Mity. Was only able to pull 6 liters, so replaced just 6 liters. Added oil back using a funnel the old way and then Dawn/water to rinse the Mity. Doesn't need to be since I only use it to pull oil out, but I like to keep my tools clean and neat. A check of the oil level showed it was just right. Same level as before the change. Super easy job. The hardest part was finding oil that met the latest Jag STJR.03.5006 spec.

Yeah, I just ended up buying that latest spec oil from the dealer. It really wasn’t all that much more than the other limited options I had in Canada for sourcing it. I will do so at least during the warranty period I figure, if not beyond…Providing the price doesn’t get ridiculous.

This! On my first oil change with the extractor, I was only able to get about 5.5 liters out (for my 2015 R RWD, it should be 7.25).

I did not loosen the oil filter first! Gonna try this on my next one.

Did you check the level before the extraction?

Yeah, using the instrument panel I checked before I started the extraction. It reported the oil at the max level.

How about pulling the rear tires up onto a 1x4 or 2x4 so that it is closer to level in your garage? or get one of these not related to oil changes but best automotive tool I have ever purchased.

A little to hardcore for me ;-) My Quickjack will have to do.

This is what I was thinking while reading this thread, just in 1x6 or 2x6 form. Easy to have on hand and might be all you need to get perfectly level. Not sure because I don’t have one, but will your quickjack allow for this small an adjustment?

This is an excellent thread for me, awesome learning tool. Thanks for posting.

Or you could put a level on your door sill and deflate your front or rear tires accordingly.

Greetings all, another question for the group: Has anyone had any experience using Kirkland's 0w-20 oil from Costco? I previously used it on my 911 with no issue but wanted to do my due diligence to ensure there wouldn't be any snags with using it.

Personally, I wouldn’t use an oil that doesn’t meet the Jag spec, at least not before the warranty expires. (Don’t you get ‘free’ oil changes during the warranty?)

That’s fair, but what qualifies as “to-spec” as per Jaguar for oil?

the dealer will only give me a free oil change every 16k miles (which is insane to me) so I’m going to do it myself in between at approx. 7-8k intervals.

Or annually, whichever occurs first. Are you a high miler?

Default Why this Kirkland oil?

You have a car that is not my 2013 VW golf. It is a true precision machine and deserves the best. You can save $$ doing the oil changes yourself. After buying the extractor, 8 litres of LiquiMoly from FCP is about $100, an @ savings of $200 over having the dealer do it. Please consider economizing somewhere else and give your Jaguar the oil that is designed for it.

There was one spec that applied for the early cars that was superceded a few years ago with a newer spec. I’m sure someone will chime in with them, I’m on a road trip currently. It is almost certainly in your Owner’s Handbook.

Attached is the document outlining the spec. There are only a couple of oils on the market that meet it, including certain Castrol Professional E and Liqui Moly.

And your maintenance is every 16K or 1 year, whichever comes first. So if you are driving 8K a year or less you should be fine. You must schedule the appointment within 30 days of the car notifying you that it's time for service for it to be covered under the warranty service.

The latest Jag spec is STJR.03.5006. The only oils I have found available are Castrol EDGE Professional and Liqui Moly Top Tec 6610. I'm using the Liqui Moly because of price and availability.

Very much so. I average 20-25k miles annually.

understood. Which liqui moly is most recommended? I see special tec AA and molygen new generation. Both of which are 0w-20.

EDIT: I found Top Tec 6600 so we’re good.
