Which means you definitely should change the oil at least once every six months if not once every four months, and I would lean towards once every three months (or roughly every 6k miles based on your annual mileage).
The specified interval of 16k miles or 12 months whichever comes first is a sick joke.
Get yourself an extraction/vacuum pump and DIY for a fraction of the price a dealership would charge, plenty of threads and posts around here about this.
If you did go to an oil change once every three or four months you would not need to change the oil filter every time, every second time would be OK.
Get yourself a cap style filter removal tool, again plenty of posts and threads around here about this.
Although I had enough old BCs to be fine with doing standard, from underneath oil changes, the F was a new experience. After checking out several YT videos, I decided I liked this one the best:
the Mityvac's 8mm tube fits right over the 'straw' in the oil filler opening. Protect the oil filter area with paper towels to prevent drips.
Have been running the LiquiMoly since mid april 2024. For my MY2017 V6/manual trans, the MPG is supposed to top out at 23. I don't use the auto stop/start and switch it off when starting the car. I have been routinely registering 26-29 mpg. While I don't throw the car around, I'm not adverse to mashing the pedal as needed.
Make sure to check your oil level prior to extraction, record it and then put exactly the same amount back in. It's a place to start. Then you can add or extract as needed.
No messy oil catch pans or oil running down your arm from sump. LOVE IT!!!
Does anyone know how to get a live oil reading on a ‘21+ f type? I just replaced the oil (could only get 4.8L out so I put the same amount back in) and the oil reading is reading critically low.

(I’m an idiot for not checking before I extracted the oil. I assumed that it was 7L but I had no evidence of this)
I ran the engine for a few minutes, turned it off and after 15 minutes turned the ignition to get a reading. Still under filled. I took a gamble, added a liter and some change. It updated which gave me hope, but was still a little low. The car actually instructed me to add another liter, which I did. That brings the total added to about 7.1L. I check with the ignition on again and it’s reading at the second-highest white tick before the red ticks indicating max fill so we’re good!
My hypotheses are that either the dealer didn’t fill the engine oil to the requisite level back in Feb (prior to me taking ownership) or that my engine consumes oil. I’ll keep an eye on it in the meantime. I’m hoping it’s the former. Definitely some lessons learned here.
First, I am inquiring about why you would do this if oil changes are covered for 5 years/50K miles? or has that policy changed?
Second. any 'live' reading of oil level would be inaccurate due to the oil being in circulation.
Third. what was the process you used to drain/change the oil? Did you loosen the filter to let it drain?
Fourth, the cluster message says to check your handbook for volume and type.
The MY2017 v-6 that I have took 7.25 Litres. I checked oil, with car being on level ground before extracting. I extracted 7.25 and put 7.25 L back in. Let car sit for 20 min. Started and ran until it idled down. Let it sit another 20min and checked inst. cluster oil level display. Spot on.
I would add oil to get to your vehicle's spec'd volume, let it sit, then check level without running the car. If the oil level indicator has gone up, but not at OK level, add a bit more. Add just small amounts and keep checking. If you add too much, then use your extractor. Your car APPEARS to be about 2 Litres low.

the dealer sponsored oil changes are every 16k, which doesn’t work for me since I drive a lot so I do it myself at about 8k miles.
I did loosen/remove the oil filter and that’s the most I could extract.
my e-handbook gives next to no information regarding the oil change procedure (a purposeful move) but I scoured the forums here for the process for the older models and took what I could from that.
it looks like I may have (as you alluded to) added aunt half a liter too much so I’ll extract that. Easy.

The oil level display normally shows an average of the last several readings. You can't get a "live" reading when the car is running. However, there is a way to get a "right now" reading when the car is off by doing the following:
1) lift bonnet / hood
2) select oil level
3) when it shows not available, press cruise control cancel button twice in quick succession to toggle to immediate reading
4) pressing cruise cancel twice again will toggle back to normal reading, as will closing bonnet or cycling ignition on / off
Remember, this is the "right now" level of the oil in the sump, which may or may not be totally accurate depending on how warm the car is if not all of the oil has drained back into the sump. However, on a cold vehicle I consider this to be the most accurate oil level measurement.
Thanks for you all’s help. I’ve never done an oil change with an extractor and it was a little more involved than I have it credit for. Thankfully the dealer will be doing the next oil change, but when it’s my turn again, I’ll keep track of the starting amount in the oil tank, and hopefully won’t have any issues using the mityvac the next time.
