I let my F-Type go yesterday. I really loved it but decided to make a change after seeing something I really loved. I had no intention of getting rid of it but saw this and needed to bring it home.

I may pick up another one in the future to hold on to.
I am still going to lurk in the group though. I have learned a lot and have enjoyed learning about everyone’s cars.

 

Congrats. Love those AMG’s. Never driven one myself so let us know your thoughts on it compared to the F-Type.

 

I hear you. The AMG GT was on my very short list, too. In many ways, it was a better car than the F-Type (I'm looking at you, infotainment system). It has drop dead gorgeous looks, a great sound, really good performance and that AMG goodness. I can not fault you for going that route.

 

Having driven both, I prefer the F-Type by a large gap. The AMG GT is over hyped (IMO), I do not believe the driving experience is the same, car feels heavy, slower (granted my F-Type is modified) and honestly I don't think they are a sporty looking car. Feel like its design is just kind of blah. BUT, best of luck and enjoy your new ride.

 

That was in my final running along with the F Type. My final choice came down to HP, vs. Sound, vs. Cost with the F Type being my final choice. Congrats, beautiful indeed!!

I really want the Aston Vantage, but won't buy one because it is a British make with the drive train of the AMG GT and is less powerful than my R. Lol

 

what year is it? New? Did u trade the Jag? How bad was the trade value? Lol

 

The Vantage was another car on my short list and was what ultimately pushed me to go SVR over R. While I liked the Vantage a little more in some ways (some of that was just the whole mystique of the name), I could not justify the large price difference. At the end of the day, the ways the Vantage was better were so very slight...

 

It's so fascinating to see how a lot of this community likes the same vehicles! I too am looking to get into a AMG GTs as my next vehicle but they're a bit over my budget used. They're quite unique just like the F-type.

 

Congrats on the new car! Those AMG GTs are fantastic. They are faster and look more exotic then our f-types. The cost do reflect that though. I am too saving up for one in the near future.

Great choice! I think the AMG GT is what happens when you get to build and F Type with nearly unlimited resources. Maybe not as beautiful as the Jag, but certainly brutally aggressive, with a lovely interior, and impeccable build quality.

 

Wow. I'm on the other end. The AMG to me is light years beyond the f type. It's 8 sec faster around the Lightning Lap, looks equally as good, better build quality, fit n finish, and materials and so much more rare. Not to mention hand built german engine....drool...

I am still looking for the right F-Type R but also considered the GT. A few things sway me away from it. Dealership costs for repairs are more, it's wider/lower and much more difficult to drive aggressively on public roads (I am and never will be an A to B person), lastly, the suspension in its softest setting cannot match the GT softness of the F-Type. I just turned 56 and just now starting to value a car that can be stiff yet comfortable when I want it to be. The GT looks are subjective, and I like it more. The AMG V8 sounds great. The GT is faster on the track but that has nothing to do with my consideration. They are equal in a straight line and the R is faster with slight mods that are relatively cheap. Everything is fast now, so I am concentrating on the other tangibles. The GT is rare but not as rare as the Jag where I live. I see many more GT's here. This is an appeal to me. A stock F-Type is just ok but lowered just a bit, tint it, and locate some nice wheels and it takes it to another level. A tough call at the end of the day but drive a GT through a busy parking lot a few times and you may want the jag back. My .02

 

There we're about 29,000 F-Types sold between 2014-2021 in the US. Between 2015-2022 there were approximately 20,000 AMG GTs sold in the US.

The AMG is the more rare car and unlike F-Type, the value doesn't fall off the face of the planet directly after purchase. For roughly the same initial cost, the residual value is now about $20,000 higher for the AMG GT.

 

As capable a car as Merc is, calling it beautiful or in the same looks category as the F-type is just not accurate. I guess as they saying goes, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

 

Interestingly, I was able to quickly find three head to head reviews from Car & Driver, Motor Trend and Evo and none said the F-Type was better. In fact, C&D rated the AMG the car if the year in 2016 and the F-Type was 9th. Perhaps they all got it wrong.

I obviously think the F-Type is wonderful. But discounting the AMG GT seems a bit short sighted.

 

Beautiful car and if I recall a few years ago when I bought my F Type (4th Q of 2020) those were quite a bit less than they are now, aren't they? Meaning they shot up in value a bit since 2020. I had money down on a 911 and took it in for a PPI. It came back not as clean as I hoped so I passed on the car. I negotiated $62 for the car and it was a 2012 991S fully loaded with 15k on it. I looked not too long ago and they seemed to be going for mid 80's with the current car market spike we had. I thought the AMG was similar. Sadly I knew the Jag wouldn't most likely appreciate like those cars but did fall in love with the car overall. Great choice and let us know how you like it.
