SOS system limited functionality.
Hi everyone,
as a new member after the purchase of an f type 2018 two weeks ago, haven’t done a lot of miles and the warning sos has come on. It does go out for a short period of time when you press the ok button.
can anyone advise if this is a must to get fixed and is it an mot failure ?
many thanks
Alan

I've no idea about MOT, but when I had that come up it was a battery for the SOS system that needed replacing due to age. For my year it is a two-cell pack, one rechargeable. See this thread for much more information. When I needed mine they were in extremely short supply. hopefully, that has improved.

Not sure about the MOT, but I wouldn't have thought it would be a fail - it's not a safety issue.
These cars are very sensitive to low battery voltage so if you haven't already, it'd be a good idea to get a battery maintainer (lots on here have CTEK MXS 5.0) and make sure you're fully charged - lots of weird errors can arise otherwise.
Thought all was resolved, out today and the sos warning back and now the engine check light staying on.
car is booked in for a check over tomorrow and will update if any fault codes are confirmed.
fingers crossed not an expensive one.

I had the same, intermittent warning last fall. Both the information I found on here and the information from the dealer pointed to the secondary battery being low. They replaced it under warranty (I also have a 2018). Btw, the dealer also asked if the auto-stop/start was working (and that had stopping kicking in as well), which, in his opinion, further indicated that battery needed a change.

Looks as if the problem was a low battery when the car was sitting on the forecourt for sale, when checked today on a diagnostic programme there was 53 related issues, all reset without issue, lights out and running great.
It did say the sos warning system is needing updated and would require a new module, as I understand is expensive.
all good for now.
many thanks for all comments to assist me.
cheers

I guess that's because the dealers won't replace just the batteries, especially if the customer is paying! I wonder if a decent independent would do the battery swap.
