Default Startup RPM'S ???

I picked up my f-type 3.0 2016 (340 HP)this afternoon. On starting the vehicle the tack registered 8000 RPM'S max my foot was definitely off the pedal, than the engine went to idle. Salesman said this is normal for this model. Is that true ? Thanks

Yes, it is true. The revs don't actually hit that level during start-up, the tach is merely taking a test spin to show it is working properly, and to get your heart pumping...
Speedo also winds to the pin on Start-up, just how fast are you going when you hit that button?

No need to question your sanity. Yes, this is "normal" and a design feature on start-up. Even though the tach sweeps to max RPM, it is really only for show and does not rev anywhere near max. You can get your feet back out from the dog-house.

First of all Welcome and congratulations. Send pictures when you can. Now Im note sure about the V6 but that sounds just a tad high on the initial startup. My V8 goes up to about 5-6 or so last time bothered to look. but it was very briefly. I will however defer to my more learned v6 brethren.

Our humbler engines need to work harder to accomplish what your V8 can do without raising a heartbeat :-)

Even when I first turn on the ignition without starting the engine, the tach sweeps to 8k and the speedo sweeps to 200mph. Subsequently starting the engine reveals that it actually revs to 2200 rpm on startup.

Not being funny but you'd have to be some sort of numpty to think that a, your engine would rev to 8k and that your car goes 200mph standing still lol

No shortage of numpties in either the US or the UK, judging by the Brexit vote and the presidential campaign. Please note: no reference/inference regarding who the numpties are. Great word, btw.

Boris Johnson, UK Foreign Secretary (actually born in the US) should be able to put President Trump to shame when it comes to numptiness....

I can't wait for the first US independent UK trade talks....

Then we can start talking about the 'dog's bollocks'....
