How is this compared to an actual software tune. Obviously you can hook it up and then disconnect the module from the car but is it worth doing.

It's not a tune, zero additional power or torque, it's simply a throttle response adjuster, identical concept to Pedal Commander, see this thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...9/#post2538309
