The GPS on my MINI has a readout for latitude, longitude and elevation. However, whenever there are high military alerts, my GPS insists I'm driving around in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay.

Lmao. We have military all around western Washington but the navigation in the car has never told me I was in Puget Sound.

You gotta be kidding me . . . There would be an awful lot of civilian aircraft in trouble if that were the case. Sorry to bust holes in your tin foil hat, but that just ain't happening. Sounds to me like you keep your GPS devices as long as you keep your cars, and if what you say is true, it doesn't appear to be working well for you.

Many years ago in the early GPS days, the military talked about doing things like degrading the signal, but those days are long gone. The GPS system has been gifted by the US to the entire world, and too much of the world economy is reliant upon it. There is now a firm commitment to never degrade the signal. It would cause a worldwide crisis.

That would be an antenna issue, not a GPS signal degradation due to a "military alert."

You're just going to have to trust me on this. I know of what I speak because of what I do for a living, and I'm not going to go into any details about that on an internet forum.

I recognize that dash. Hope you're liking your Trailhawk as much as I do mine.

No doubt that certain things do push my buttons. That's particularly true when I see things like what you wrote above. Some people might actually believe that, and I'm hoping it was just attempted humor.

The facts are in the link below:

Actually, the compass heading is shown--to the left of the 2D/3D indicator on the nav screen. It's just a small needle that always points north.

Thanks. I also just figured out the navigation has a button where it repeats the verbal instructions. Located to the right of the 2D/3D selectors.

Hmmmm, I can't seem to find/see that. There is an N that shows when the "North Always Up" the Nav map display option is selected (versus 2D or 3D) - but it's fixed so it's of no help.

I thought that as well originally but if you make a turn it changes direction.
If yours doesn't, maybe you have a software glitch. Or then again, maybe my 2015 R is special.

I have noticed the N up isn't always available. Sometimes it's just an option of 2D or 3D. i THINK that it depends in you have a route set and if the system zooms in when approaching a turn, the N up automatically changes.

I haven't quite figured it out yet, but if I don't have a route set and I'm just looking at the map, I always have it set to N up.

My N↑ is within the map orientation soft button when "north always up" mode is selected and it does not rotate when I go round and round; however, the vehicle arrow within the map does then go round and round with the N↑ map mode. There's no compass/heading information if the map is not displayed. I'm only thinking about my DW, who becomes easily disoriented - not a problem for me, of course!!
