Default Tire Wear

Hello all,

I took my car in for a once-over the other day, and the dealer told me the rear tires are at roughly 4/32's - fronts are at 7/32's. Mismatched tires (in terms of brand; not size) are a huge peeve of mine. Are these cars noted for wearing one end more heavily than the other? The car currently wears a set of Falkens - not my favorite - if I have to replace, I'll likely go back with Michelins.

Yes the rears where quicker than the fronts. When I purchased my car MY16 S coupe, with 30k mikes the rears were shot along with the rotors and brake pads. They replaced them before I took delivery.

Thanks - I'm in the same situation. My rear brakes are at 3mm as well... I may have to replace the front tires as well - as I say, a mismatched set of tires really drives me nuts.

+1 can’t stand mismatched tires, especially on a high end car.

If others can tell that I have mismatched tires, I’m driving too slow. If I can tell they’re mismatched, I’m driving too fast.

Just drive the rear tires down to the wear bars and replace the whole set.

I have similar wear, maybe 6/32 front and 4/32 rear, after 25,000 miles on my MPS4S. They’re getting pretty noisy, will probably replace them this fall.

That's my plan. The mismatch tire thing is really something for parking lots. Whenever I see a high-end car with mismatch tires (or just as commonly 'Sun-Li Hing Happy Drive' tires) it just screams that the owner is driving more car than they can afford.

Yeah, a local owner just put LingLong rear tires on his XK.
The name Linglong means "exquisite" in Chinese
Not judging (who would have guessed that Hankook or Nitto were good tires when they were first imported) but I've had several premature issues with cheap tires on my DDs (mainly snow tires).

PS: Weekly applications of Tire Shine can hide the names if you really are ashamed about mixing brands.

Well, whenever Chinese tires catch up to European/US/Japanese/Korean tires, I'll look at them - right now, as far as I can tell, they're garbage. I bought a supercharged Miata a couple of years ago that had a new set of Chinese summer tires on it - they were scary in the dry and downright dangerous in the wet. I tell folks who ask that if there is any part of your car that you should spend as much money as you can, it's tires. Those four little spots are the only control you have over it.
