Default Tires look kind of weird

The rear tires on my R look weird to me. They look too narrow for the wheel. It's a 295, which is stock for my model year. I'll have to replace them pretty soon. I'm thinking of getting 305 30s for the car instead. Is this common? I see the SVR has 305s.

Having the tire slightly stretched is generally preferred to having the sidewall "pinched."

SVR has a wider rear wheel. That doesn't mean you can't put a 305 on the 10.5.

I understand that, which is why I asked the question in the first place. According to several tire vendors, the following is true:

Tire size Safe wheel widths
295/30R20 10" to 11"
305/30R20 10.5" to 11.5"

My wheel is 10.5" wide, so according to multiple charts it should work. Has anyone tried it? The later model R's and SVR's had an 11" wheel, but mine has a 10.5.

Thanks!!

I run a 295 on a 11" width very happily. 10.5" is plenty as well.

My wheel guys liked to oversize the tyres a little as I was worried about kerb rash, they reckon it helps.

You can absolutely run a 305 size tire on the OEM 10.5" wide wheel. I personally do not like the look and the performance of my Michelins at the factory 295 width (and look) are superb, IMO.

If you have the OEM Pirelli's, they have a rounded tire shoulder design which makes it look like a smaller tire. It gives it a "stretched tire" look compared to something like a Michelin tire which has a square tire shoulder design that will look like a bigger tire in a similar size.

I am running 265/35/20 fronts and 305/30/20 rears on the stock Gyrodyne wheels on my 2016 R. Tires are Michelin PS4S. I like the look and it does offer a slight bit of kerb protection as mentioned above. Tires do not look too wide for the wheels IMO. YMMV.

Do you have some pictures of this setup?

Sure - Here are a few. Please forgive the heavy brake dust on the wheels in the first two images. A track day at NCM and a run through the Smokies and Tail of the Dragon left a lot of pad on the wheels 😄.
