1500 911s only represent 2.5 weeks of production, not 4 months.

How do you figure that? That's 1544 in the U.S.

Exactly, that's only 1.5 weeks of production.

Whose comments are you questioning? If mine, 1544 represents only 2.5 weeks of their worldwide production as compared with 4 months for the F-Type.

Lance,

I'm not questioning you because I've learned that you're right about 99.9% of the time. I guess I'm shocked that they build that many 911s. Is that really 911 production or all models?

Well, you should be shocked. My original estimation was that they produced 30,000 911s each year. In looking closer, I think the number is closer to 15-20k. Puts their dealership inventory at 4-5 weeks. Still makes Jag look like they can't sell the F-Type fast enough to keep up with production.

I found a press release from Porsche reporting 2013 U.S. sales, which was their best-ever year in the U.S. They reported about 10K 911 sales in the U.S. that year, so 1544 appears to be about an 8 week supply. That's still much better than Jaguar, but it looks like you're only right about 98.7% of the time.

Porsche Reports Record Sales in 2013; 21 Percent Increase Over 2012

Best-ever U.S. sales fueled by 911, Cayenne models

Atlanta. Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), the exclusive U.S. importer of Porsche sports cars including the Macan and Cayenne SUVs and the Panamera sports sedan, today announced it has once again set an all-time U.S. sales record, with 42,323 cars sold in 2013 (plus 21 percent over 2012). The previous record year for Porsche in the U.S. was 2012 when 35,043 cars were sold. In December 2013, Porsche dealers sold 3,246 cars, an increase of 10 percent over last December.

“Exceeding 40,000 sales for the first time in the history of Porsche in the U.S. makes us very proud,” said Detlev von Platen, President and CEO, Porsche Cars North America, Inc. “This success was possible only through the combination of a strong product offering, a highly professional sales organization and a team of dedicated dealers,” he added. “Since introducing 22 new models and variants into the U.S. market in 2013, we are entering the New Year with our youngest product line ever – thus, we are confident that we can continue writing the success story of Porsche in the U.S. over the next 12 months.”

The flagship 911 completed a strong anniversary year in 2013, with 10,442 units sold and the introduction of six new model variants including the limited-edition “50th Anniversary” model. In December, the top-of-the-line 911 models (GT3, Turbo, Turbo Cabriolet) arrived at U.S. dealers, with those models accounting for four percent of December 911 sales.

Great site for US sales numbers...

F-Type is down at #225 on the list. 4112 Sold in 2014.

10,433 for the Porsche 911, 3875 for the Boxter.

TX, that is a great site! Thanks.

I suppose the good news for JLR is that the combined brand outsold Porsche--67K units (JLR) vs. 43K (Porsche) in the US. Since Porsche is so profitable, it must certainly be possible to make money with that kind of volume.

.987 batting average. Baseball players get paid millions for getting it right just 30% of the time.

The pricing exercise in N.Am. will be interesting.. in the past year the GBP has weakened 7% against the USD but appreciated 4% against the CAD. At the same time Jaguar is pricing against Euro denominated manufacturers like PAG, M-B, BMW all of whom are going to benefit from the Euro have weakened a full 20% against the USD. So apples to apples for the same car, I would not be surprised to see price _cuts_ on a lot of 2016 Euro cars in the US. Maybe that's why the delay in price announcement... 2015 model leftovers on lots (and the used market) could get hammered. As for Canadians, we might get the shaft (as opposed to the pipeline!)..

Yep, been lurking here awhile as I test-drive replacement candidates for my 996. Although that one was a track-prepped beast, this time its gonna be more of a GT/sports deal that can still man-up to track day a couple of times a summer. Used F-Type R and 997 GTS are frontrunners and similar price points. I really do like the visual and aural distinctiveness of the F-Type over the kinda common modern 911. But really want to avoid the extra 200lbs that comes with AWD so am hoping to find a 2015 R on a lot or CPO at a great price. That's Plan A. Plan B may be spec out a 2016 6-speed V6S.

Hope you go with plan B. There won't be many of us gear grinders on this forum.

congrats. i just took posession of my 2015 F-type R yesterday and can't stop smiling from everything about it. can't wait to get it to the track to learn how to manage that power (& weight), as i'm coming from a cayman (will be different in so many ways).

i for one think the 'one and done' element of the 2015 RWD R will help keep it's value incredibly well. there will always be 'purists' out there that will want RWD in a special car like this.

i also see why jag would go this route for the more 'typical' driver (more predictability). why they didn't just provide 'both' to the US, is a mystery though.

The pricing is out for Canada. It's a bit tricky to compare MY2015 to MY2016 as they are now including 2015 options as standard in 2016. But I did a spreadsheet between the two for my car and it came out pretty much even! The included options were all ones I was going to get, so they got that part right.

What is your source for FY16 pricing? If hardcopy, could you scan and post? The Canadian configurator is still allowing (and pricing) the FY15 and has no FY16 configurator. Interestingly, the U.S. site pulled the FY15 configurator and has no prices listed yet for the cars and options an the FY16 configurator. Thanks

Exactly 3 weeks ago my Subaru Legacy was struck by a driver who thought it was a good idea to go into on coming traffic. This totaled my car and so i've been limited to the Chevy Sonic's and Kia Soul's of the world in between taking cars home from work. Truly awful. Speed forward to today... I officially purchased an 04 STi (also white) and my F Type cleared customs and officially entered the U.S. Oddly enough both vehicles are about an hour apart on the east coast waiting to be shipped to me. Its an agonizing wait.

Hopefully they release containment on the F type right away, I can only hope. Tho, I'm not sure how it ended up in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey when it was scheduled to end up in Baltimore, 2 hours away. If someone can explain that, that'd be great.

This would be my guess. The last two weeks we've had prolonged temps between 10-20ºF, and it was never above freezing. This February was the 3rd coldest in the history of weather records.

The Chesapeake Bay and Baltimore Harbor are relatively shallow, and a deeper water port closer to the Atlantic was probably a better choice right now. The harbor is pretty backed up right now because of the ice.
