With the early 5.0L V8-S (producing 495hp) and the 5.0L V8-R (producing 550hp), I'm curious how was the increased 50+ horsepower was achieved? Are the V8-S and V8-R superchargers identical or different models? Was the increased horsepower and torque achieved strictly through a change in the tune?

Yes, just a tune. The 495HP number is quite conservative, the V8S is typically faster than that power level would indicate.

 

Thanks for digging that thread out. I searched and searched but wasn't coming up with any definitive discussions. It does appear it's just a tune.
