Default V8 timing components

Picked this up off one of the UK forums - may be of some interest to enquiring minds:

"I just asked JLR CEO when V8 and V6 got the revised timing chain components.

Names omitted for privacy.

Further to my email sent Thursday 30th July 2020, regarding the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) in reference to your original timing chain query.

Please allow me to confirm that, following communication with my technical team they have advised that only the V8 from VIN K06170 (last 6 digits) has the improved timing components the V6 is not affected.

I wish you success in finding your perfect F-TYPE.

Should there be anything further I can assist with please do not hesitate to contact me on my details below.

Yours sincerely,"

So why fix only V8? Why state that V6 is not affected?

This is puzzling.

Have we had any evidence of a timing chain issue on the V6 engine? I can't recall any.

The 5.0 V8 in the LR4 range has a reputation for problems with the timing chain guides due to wear on one of the tensioners which was resolved with an upgraded part. Apparently engines with as low as 50K miles have needed a tear down and fix with upgraded parts. Didn't affect the V6 version.

Of course, I don't know if anybody has got that many miles on an F-Type yet...

To the best of my knowledge the V6 got the improved timing gear (chains, guides, tensioners) from the get go as it first came out some time in 2012, around the same time the V8 got the improved gear.
That's what the JLR CEO meant when he said "the V6 is not effected".

Mine is a relatively early F-Type V6, build date Oct 2014, and I am fairly sure it has the upgraded timing gear. I have roughly measured the width of the LHS timing chain by taking off the oil filler cap and it is definitely closer to 8 mm than 6.35 mm.
I have a very rattly engine and at one point I suspected it was the dreaded timing chain rattle but on further investigation I am now 99% sure it is the SC coupler/torsion isolater (again!).

Nup.
But it sounds just like it did before I had the "fix" done by the local JLR dealership (under warranty) some three years ago now, including the tell-tale "clonk" on shut down.

I wonder if the parts system is wrong then because the info for both 3L and 5L is identical and the VIN range matches what stmcknig posted.

What is the earliest VIN of the 3 litre cars?

Mine is 2622, and there are a few earlier ones here. May ‘13 build. Engine is quite noisy.

Looking at some 14 V8S models that have VIN #s below the K06170 number posted above. Anyone confirm this info could be true? Deciding if its worth shying away from the lower VIN # cars.
