Default Vail Automotive Classic This Weekend

It's been a long time since I did anything "fun" and this was my one opportunity to get out of town and attend a Concours d' Elegance in Vail. I spent 4 days prepping the SVR for the show and I went to bed every night with Aleve and a sore back.

The event ran from Friday-Sunday. It was a perfect autumn day on Saturday when I drove 90 minutes up to Vail. I couldn't check into the hotel until 4:00 so I decided to get something to eat. The restaurant just happened to be right next to a car wash so I figured I'd better do a quick wash to get all of the dust off and shine everything up. Ahead of me at the carwash was a new Bentley, a Porsche GT4 RS and a red Ferrari who were also there prepping for the show. By the time I was finished, I checked into my hotel room.

I was really tired and sore so I went to bed early knowing that I had to get up early for the staging which started at 7:00. It was another blue sky perfect day! I received my welcome bag and proceeded to get directions for staging. It was a chilly night so I had to wait for the ice to melt off the roof before I could wipe down the SVR.

Right next to me was a purple Lamborghini with another white Lambo across from me. I saw several Ferrari's, a white Countach, several Porsche GT4 RS, a few C6's and brand new C7 Corvettes - two of which were parked next to me on my right with a beautiful black Pantera parked next to me.

The judges put the SVR in the "SuperCar" classification with the Lambos, Porsches, Ferraris, and other gorgeous supercar exotics. This was not good, because from what I saw, that would be the toughest class to compete in. The judges came over and spent a half hour inspecting the SVR before moving on to the rest of the SuperCars at the show.

Later that afternoon, the judges made their rounds to the winners. The white Lambo parked across from me won an award. And I believe that one of the new C7 Corvettes won an award as well. I told the Pantera owner that I would be very happy with just getting an Honorable Mention. When the judges came over to the SVR they said; Congratulations! Your SVR won the First Place Award for Best in Class SuperCars!". WOW! I did not expect that!!!

I immediately became a celebrity with people swarming all over the car taking photos and selfies. As the winner, I even had my photo taken with the car for the Vail Magazine (which I will get a copy of). What an experience! When the show ended at 3:00 I drove back home with the biggest smile on my face. I was too excited to go to bed so I stayed up and watched football games.

I finally got to sleep and woke up this morning at 5:00 (usual time for me). When I woke up I thought about what I had experienced the day prior and wondered, "Was yesterday real or was it all just a dream?" I went downstairs to check for the blue ribbon. Sure enough it was there and yesterday was for real! What a weekend and what an experience!!!! WOW!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!....

Here's a YouTube of the event that was posted this morning...

FeralSVR,
Congratulations! That is some feat. The judging in a Concours D'Elegance is tough. That is quite an accomplishment. Of course, as a long time Pantera owner, I was rooting for it, but it's hard to find one (including mine) which is all original, usually a requirement for the judging. Post some additional pictures of your car (with its ribbon, of course), I'd love to see them.

Outstanding! The SVR can definitely stand out in that class since most people don’t see the SVR that often and it’s got a unique look as compared to the Lambos et al that folks see all the time.
