I should have asked more clearly.
Will accessing the cars data from the OBD port cause the same issues reported by other OBD readers ?
Will it be necessary to perform the battery reset after use?

Probably, yes. This isn't a standard Jaguar tool.

But maybe VAP figured out some black magic!

Stewart,

Is transmission fluid temp one of the monitored metrics?

When I have used my GAP IID tool on the Jag (although I got it for the Landy) as long as I choose "Disconnect" before actually removing it from the OBD port, I have not <knock wood> run into the "stay awake Jag" syndrome. I have experienced that after taking the car for the state inspection though...

Even the Jag tools cause the ODB issue on my car.

Agreed, I had the zombie sleep problem after my dealer did a software update.

Interesting, I've never had problems after dealer or independent, maybe it's at least partly an operator error.

I can't wait for this to drop. I bought this day 1 vap dropped it and even switched from a viezu tune to vap, because vap is showing that they are progressing. I can't wait for an E blended tune. Plus I will have both tunes and can do a same car review with draggy info.

Cable needs to comply with Iso 15765. I’ve testing tactrix openport 2.0, kvaser, mongoose. Cable we’re supplying is similar to a mongoose.

I’ve got a 2018 and 2015 F-Type R that I’ve designed tested this tool over few months. Neither car has required any battery reset nor charge..

It an MED17831 engine module datalogger. The trans temp would require datalogging the 8HP70 TCU, which this tool currently will not do at this present time. However, it’s a possible future function, just not right now...

I bought one of these and received it yesterday. There are no Instructions, documentation, or software so far...Just a cable? I sent an email to VAP about it. Once I hear back from VAP and I am able to try it out, I will post back on here with impressions, etc...

Shipping was pretty quick.

More to come...

The instructions are sent to you automatically in your order confirmation email.

Maybe you guys can re-send, because I looked through all of my emails, and I got that it was confirmed...it was charged...it was shipped and an email asking me for my VIN. I do not see any instructions or links or anything else?

I clicked on my orders on your website to see if there is a link there...But I cannot find anything in any of my emails from you. When I was ordering it was giving me problems and I had to use another email address, now they seem to have 2 accounts? At any rate, I have checked everything I received in both Gmail accounts and online and there is nothing.

If it can be sent again, and/or delete the second account / merge them that would be helpful.

Thanks,
DC

Here is what I got as confirmation...Removed personal info:

Update: I was able to contact Chris at VAP yesterday and get the software link and instructions for the DataLogger. The Cable/OBDII device looks like good quality so far, and the software install was easy to download and install on a Windows 10 PC.Laptop. Device drivers all installed as well, without a hitch. Of note; Once you get the software installed, it is considered "Unlicensed" and the next step is to send an email with the Product Code, Your VIN, and Your Full Name back to VAP Tuning. They will then send you a XXX.license file that unlocks and registers your software. This all occurred on the same day for me. The price is for ONE vehicle BTW. It is bound to your Vin/Name/PC.

Chris gave me some suggested items to log, related to my recent MethanolH2O system install, so once I can get it back out on the road, I will test those PID readings and see what it says. Overall, I would say this is a pretty good purchase and priced fair. I paid about ~$700.00 for a Durametric cable for my Porsches, for unlimited vehicles (since I have several), and the ability to change settings and code options. This VAP Datalogger ONLY logs data, reads DTC's, and clears DTC's, and is for ONE vehicle. But it is only 1/2 the price of my Durametric....So I would say the price is about right!

It also DOES NOT appear to create any of the battery draining issues. So looking forward to testing it out on the road next.

If you have the ability to purchase one, and you would like to capture data, I think this is a GOOD purchase and worth the effort and money (just my opinion).

Awesome. I ordered mine yesterday along with everything else. Like yourself, I didn't get any software link. Just an order confirmation email. Once my package gets here I'll reach out to them for it. I'm going from stock to dual pulley with the sport cats and I am interested in collecting data on each change in relation to boost and intake temps along with timing and fueling.

Can't wait to see your intake temp, fuel and timing data with the meth spraying.

Thank you for sharing the info.

Great! For awareness....The software info. etc., should be in your package with the cable. It is a print of a .pdf file. Mine was just left out when it shipped by mistake. So hopefully yours will be included and you will not have to follow up...Just follow the directions and link for download, then email them the 3 data elements and you will be up and running when your licence file is received back.

Good luck.

Well...I was able to get set-up and get out for a brief trial run with the Software/Cable. First impressions are, that it is easy to use, and captures about everything I can think of. Plenty (almost toom much for my small brain) of data captured, and the sample rate is fast.

Easy to export/save the .CSV file and manipulate or create visualizations in MS Excel (or other tools if you want to create delimited flat files from the extract). Also, the PID column names are easy to read and meaningful...Not cryptic like some tools.

At any rate...Just wanted to follow up and say it is a good tool, easy to use, captures a ton of data, and worth the money IMO.

Now I just need to get out some more and spend more time paying attention to what I am capturing as opposed to flogging the old girl

Thanks for the update. My stuff is arriving today and VAP already sent the instructions, I've just been busy dodging hurricanes down here over the weekend. Hope to carve out some time to play with it this week.
