Default Warranty or no warranty?

Hi - new to the place. Locked in a 15' R with 21k and on the fence about purchasing an extended warranty. Couple different pricing for different configurations of years/milage. I'm looking at 60mo 60kmile for $4100.00. Would you?? Anyone purchased one or have opinions one way or another?

Thanks
Bill

I bought a 2016 last October and got a Platinum CarChex policy for around $4200. Shop prices, they matched a lower cost than they quoted me. Car is in the shop now getting a TCM module replaced under that warranty. It did NOT cover the blind spot faults (corrosion), or the non-functioning Active Exhaust (fuse was pulled).

Hard to say for anyone else as you have to see if it's worth it to you. I typically get extended warranties with all my high performance vehicles but didn't with F Type R as it still has OEM warranty remaining.

That being said, the entire aftermarket warranty system is based on the probability that you will never need to use it and that is why warranty companies make unreal money but it's one of those things that you rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

I had extended warranty on my R8, AMG GTS, Vantage, M850 etc. but never needed it so when I look at it, I definitely wasted a **** tons of $. Also depends on how long you plan to hold on to the vehicle for. I generally hold them for a year to 1.5 yrs, so was definitely not a good idea for me, but perhaps might be for you.

I would check JLR warranties to see what they offer and what they cover. You need to get something that works best for your situation. Do you need coverage for a longer time period or more miles?

Regardless of what warranty you decide on read all the fine print and know what is covered and what isn't plus the deductible amount before you buy. Also check prices at multiple places. I know for other OEM warranties not all dealerships sell identical policies for the same price.

Frequent topic on this board. Extended warranty is a "peace of mind" purchase. The expected value is only about half of what you spend. If you're "lucky" enough to have bought a real dog, you'll come out "ahead." It probably won't make you happy, but it might make you feel relieved. I, personally, would never buy a car that I expected to need the coverage (and I recognize it helps if you can afford to self-insure). It's a personal decision, and I don't have a bone to pick with those that buy one.

A couple of notes if you go that route. The advice to shop around is excellent, but don't JUST buy on price. Warranty companies are more famous for refusing to cover items than they are for saving anyone's bacon. The reasons can be anything from "uncovered item, normal wear, improper maintenance, voided by damage or modification." If you're buying is peace-of-mind, it doesn't help if they won't pay. Recommendations from someone who hasn't tested the system doesn't tell you much. Ask your local shop for insight on which companies they have found are easy to work with. (Similar to asking your favorite body shop about insurance companies.)

Enjoy your toy!

My vote is NO warranty. I have a 2015 V8s. Had zero issues other than sticky buttons/trim. Due to the car's age (going on 8-years now), I'm about to replace all the belts/hoses/fluids and will replace the coolant pipes and water pump at the same time just for fun.

I'd take my chances without an extended warranty. Put the $4,100 in a CD earning 5% and use that for repair money in the future, if needed. Plus you won't be arguing with a warranty company about what is or is not covered.

Good stuff - I'm gonna like it here.

I went with the warranty 5 yr/60k - I may have got it cheaper somewhere else but a few hundred bucks this way or that way sometimes just aint werth the fight.

Light mods planned:
Lower
Rims/tires
Tint
Blk out all chrome
CIA

This is not my first fast car - but defiantly the smexiest. Very excited!

I bought one when I purchased my 2016 R a few years ago. It is still good until end of next year. I paid I think only $2600 since my cousin worked at the dealer and was the sales mgr. It is 0 deductible and as others said more of a peace of mind than anything. I think the warranty was used on the expansion tank replacement and no issues getting it covered. That is all that its really been in for other than an O2 sensor which is covered by the mfg warranty.

Get the extended warranty. just got my car with warranty and getting engine noise fixed (looks like SC), driver window frame and passenger drip rail (rubber gave way).

Just the drip rail is 1,800 not including labor, window is 1,600 including labor; don't know about the SC. But that will pay for my warranty and I still am waiting on the none functioning hatch lights, plus I get to drive a 2022 BMW X2 while in the shop
