Weird AC issue
2017 F type premium so no dual zone AC. Randomly stops cooling usually when I set the temperature to 70F + but also sometimes on startup or just driving along. I have verified refrigerant level and that clutch is engaging. If I shut off the AC then restart it sometimes multiple times it will come back. Every time before it happens the AC system smell like a swamp. Need help troubleshooting. Here is where I am focusing
Compressor - I don't think so unless the variable compressor sensor
Expansion valve- maybe
More likely Sensor related in my mind but no codes
Air conditioning Module
Control module
Air temperature sensor
Solar sensor
Blend door
Anyone run across this or have ideas?

Well I think it is the compressor or DPS valve, so will be replacing the compressor as it has 80k on it now anyways.
Questions I have
Can you order a DPS valve as I am out of warranty and local Jag dealer leaves much to be desired
I am afraid that the expansion valve may be plugged as well based upon pressure readings. Has anyone ever replaced the expansion valve? If so where is it located, and did you have to remove the dash if it is located as part of the evaporator assembly.
I did find the transducer and it is from a volvo XC 90 if you want to use the same connector

It was reading high on the low side and low on the high side. all are indicative of compressor, dps valve or expansion valve.
I am seeing a little PAG on the seams of the compressor and hearing a clicking noise when it engages as well, which is why I am going to start with the compressor.
The reason I am worried about the expansion valve is I had the engine out for an extended period of time, and while I had everything blocked off and flushed it before I put everything back together it is a concern.
I appreciate the help with not trying to throw parts at it.

I have a detailed thread on the DPS and it's replacement. Jaguar issued a TSB on this and seemed to have messed it up as it's now on V7!
Take a look as I have part numbers and pictures of the DPS. It will save you time as I had to do this twice!
DPS AC Problem
Yes if your pressures are what you said (No Number's?) that's does point at the DPS valve. It's odd because this is the only time I have ever seen too high a pressure on the lo side and too lo a pressure on the high side at the same time! Strange.
One sure fire way to tell it's the DPS. Is to start the car. Pop the hood and feel if the fan is on low. If not that is another strong indication of DPS problems.
Probably NOT an expansion valve problem but that is just my guess.

I didn't post the numbers because they were so obviously wrong to me. between 60 and 80 on the low side and high side was around 150. This is R1234Yf so low side is normally around 45-55 based on how warm it was here yesterday.
I decided to just order a new compressor since I am seeing signs of leaking and hearing and obvious tick when engaged. Went with a nissens compressor as have had good luck with them in the past.
Thanks for the thread link

That's a wise decision as that's what I finally did when I got done screwing around with DPS valves! I think you will be money ahead.
But it helps to post your car info as I have R134a and you have the newer R1234. So differences again.
Note in my link the change Jaguar has made to the compressor fittings and seal assemblies.

Hi Zen Beer,
Thank you for reporting back with the successful resolution of the A/C issue.
I have moved your thread from the General Tech Forum to the forum for the X152. This is the appropriate forum for technical issues related to your 2017 F-Type.
Cheers,
Don
