That's about double the mileage, give or take, for a 2014. Knock off about $10K for the high miles.

 

The brand is still suffering with the bad reputation it deservedly had while under British Leyland and the Joseph Lucas stigma.

The depreciation is not much worse than other high end marques today. You should have been around 10-15 years ago.

 

I don't think it's unique to Jaguar and that car is the cheapest you could find: base model 2014 with high mileage.

My local dealer had a '14 S with normal miles (15k) earlier this year, asking $49.9k, so I'm not surprised. It was only off about 20% from what I paid for mine when it I bought it 2 years prior.

Seems like you'd have to work at it to put 20k kilometers/year on a 'vert in Toronto.

 

That is actually about 6-10k overpriced imo. roughly 40% depreciation for a 3-4 year old car with 60k miles seems like a great resale value to me if it were true. I expect my car to drop 40% over the next year from its base price not including negotiation.

In the U.K., try 40% resale value (so 60% depreciation) after 3-4 years. On a car that's reckoned to hold its value.

Obviously, we pay too much new. But still...

 

It really doesn't make ANY sense to buy a new F type unless you're getting $15-25k off depending on trim.

I thought I was slick and got some great deal on this for $11k under sticker. No way. There are new SVRs, even convertibles, being listed for $108-115k on Autotrader.

The dealer trade-in value of my SVR with 3K miles is $93-100k (only one place offered $100). MSRP was $140.

And I was so picky because I wanted the stupid forged wheel package

I hoped the SVR would be different on the used market than the type R. But the enhancements just aren't that significant, I suppose, and the market is responding accordingly.

 

Two reasons:

1. People in the market for specialist models are more likely to want to avail themselves of any personalisation options.

2. Just because you had the good taste to go for forged wheels, doesn't mean the next guy isn't just going to think they look ugly and demand that the seats come with Leopard Skin covers...

 

There's a reason why manufacturers set a price during leasing at which all other options above that you pay for in full. Because regardless of the options, it doesn't add value to the resale price down the road. The same holds true for purchasing. In fact, the more "personalize" your car is new, typically the bigger the depreciation hit.

 

I guess the $2,700 I spent on the "Extended Leather Pack" isn't coming back!
The leather sunvisors are kind of groovy, but not $2,700 groovy.

Configurator made me order the Extended Leather Pack to get other options I wanted (Vision Package?). Now I know you can order pretty much anything al la carte from the dealer so I didn't have to have the Extended Leather Pack -- but if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't change a thing.

 

When you are at this price point get what you want. Unless you have to bail depreciation is what it is 3-4 years down the road. Plus we are in a period of declining used car prices. Delaers tell you they are in cpo $2k at Jag but their cost is really $1595. Most good dealers make more on used by % than new, that's just their business.

 

The mileage is close to double what I saw out there when I was looking this spring. I test drove a similar 14 vert with about 60 000 kms and they wanted over $60 000. I walked away as it was beat up and had zero options. Ended up buying a loaded 15 CPO with 6300kms in Toronto that was spotless with plenty of warranty. Saved just over 30% which I was very happy with. Some MB's, caddy, Lincoln's are similar or worse.
Now can it ever stop raining here!

 

Guys, I wanted to lease a 2016, waited a bit too long and was told any unsold 2016 are no longer leasable by Jag/Chase/JP. Window is closed. (comment?)

Ive set up a lease on a 2017 R Convertable that a large jag dealer wants to move, terms even my local Jag F/M said he recommends I take.

They want me to consider the following additional-cost coverages, I'm always inclined to say no, any comment?

1) Paint and Leather Protection ($895 - protects paint from environmental damage, interior carpet and leather protected from stains or tears),

2) Paintless Dent and Ding Removal ($765 - removes dents up to 4 inches in diameter),

3) Road Hazard Wheel and Tire Protection ($1,470- repairs or replaces wheels or tires damaged from road hazard),

4) Image Protection Film ($995 - a clear plastic wrap covers the front third of the vehicle, mirror caps and door handle inserts that protects against scratches and chips),

Thanks for any comment guys...new to leasing, I don't want to add costs not really needed...

Easy... No to all. It's a lease and I assume you don't destroy your cars. I'd say if you were buying to maybe be more inclined, but on a lease the end repair bills tend to be very small and likely won't add up to anything even remotely close to what they want you to put out of pocket. These are just 100% profit points for the dealers.

But with that said, it all depends on your comfort level and your own cost / benefit thoughts.

 

Most paintless dent repairs run from $100-150. Looks like you'd pay up front for 5 or so. On my last Jag XF I had 1 fixed over 4 years with driving year round. Road hazard could come in handy if you're roads are bad, but I've never bought it except when I buy a set of tires, but it's not for wheels and not very expensive. I don't let too many people in my car and no food for sure. I bought my own film, but I own the car. If you intend to turn the car in, no to all as others have said.

 

I would say no to all - the only one that might be worth considering is the road hazard wheel / tire cover.

I live in CT and drive pretty much all year round with the exception of when it snows. The roads get into a terrible state here with potholes from hell. In 3 years of ownership not had a single issue thank god.

Having said that I did need 2 rims and tires on a BMW from driving through a pothole so sometimes its a case of luck.... Didn't cost me $1500 though.
