I'm damn lucky. Only 1 ticket in the last 45 years, and that was a camera ticket - $40 civil infraction so it never hit the license. But I've had some close calls. Riding through Frederick doing probably 85+ mph in a 55 zone (this isn't possible anymore due to the amount of traffic). Got lit up, moved over to the right lane. The cop turned off his lights. Another time I went through a radar trap again doing well in excess of the 55 limit. State trooper walks out into the road and motions to pull over. I point at myself. He smiles and waves me by and stopped the car behind me.

 

95 on the 5 freeway going between SF and LA... got caught by a plane. Nothing I could really say to dispute it.

 

Luckiest was when I got pulled over for speeding in MI (while driving from MA), and the trooper pointed out my license had expired, which was news to me. After quietly sh!tting myself while waiting to see what would happen, he let me go with a speeding ticket, and said 'be careful, the next guy might not be as nice as me.'

I had explained that MA, in their wisdom, had stopped sending license renewal notifications, to save money.

MI state troopers have a reputation for being decent guys (and gals), and that's always been my experience.

 

You have to wait until the tule fog comes in, but high enough to see a good distance ahead of you..

 

My daughter got caught at 102 in a 50 limit area just recently. In her new Lexus IS 350 .. A country back road straight away.

Fine was $475 but she got it reduced to $75. Her boyfriend is a state trooper.

 

If my, in my case, girlfriend or wife were a state trooper and she didn’t get the entire charge and fine dropped completely...she wouldn’t be my girlfriend or wife. Naturally I jest and I’m sure she was grateful to have a $400 reduction in fines (what about the infraction itself?) but “reaching” out to the “right” person might yield to even better results. (I’m sure he did what he could!).

Don't ask ask me how I know.

I can’t get drawn into this otherwise fascinating thread, tempting though it is. I have far too many stories - enough to write a pamphlet - and you wouldn’t believe me if I did tell them.

Did any of them involve sirens, handcuffs and flatbed/tow trucks? I'm not familiar with such things just asking.

 

It did not go against her licence but she has to stay "clean" for 6 months.

 

I was heading south on Interstate-55 in southern Missouri. USA I was heading to my girl friends in Arkansas. I was running about 110 mph. 2 O,clock in the morning. When I went under an overpass, I saw a plain white Ford on the entrance ramp. It never moved so I figured he was asleep. A mile or 2 up the road I saw a Semi Truck headed north, and I picked up the CB microphone, and let him know there was a plain white wrapper, (unmarked white squad car) at the next interchange. All of the sudden a "Very Crisp and Clear" transmission came across the CB. He said by the way your speedometer is a little off!

I replied, Thank You Sir I'll get that fixed!!!

You refer, of course, the time you and I got singled out for our high speed shenanigans - being forced to follow a patrol car with one behind us; fearing we would attempt an escape - and ended up sharing a jail cell for 48-hours (while the rest of the group continued on their journeys without us)? I will never forget your generosity when you gave me your slice of white bread as the one provided me was stale. Then, when we were sentenced to do community service - picking wild blueberries (and the shame you and I had as the group drove by while we were working) - and you carried my basket for, I seem to recall, at least 1 mile. Fond memories indeed.

 

I think Vince got a glimpse of us trying to hide behind some wild blueberry bushes (not easy considering they are low-lying) while we were doing our community service but he’s far too much a gentlemen to have made mention of it.

 

Looks like a rest break from working the rock pile. To stay on topic, speeding 110 in a 65 (in car no. 7; no.1 and 2 may have been going faster), but lucky Jay knew people and we only had to pick wild blueberries as punishment. We were allowed to eat them too!

 

Checking in from the Portland Maine Federal Detention Center. Still waiting for my court date. Every now and then Jay comes by and slips a lobster roll through a loose brick in the wall. So that's nice.
