The paperwork shouldn't take too long -- just pay somebody a bag of cash and you're probably fine. After paying the higher prices that the rest of the world pays for the car you probably wouldn't notice..

 

Given your recent experience, how confident would you be you could obtain such a letter?

EDIT: Never mind, the hair-pin turn in this thread is rather non-sensical. Anyone who would spend all that extra money, and go through all that red-tape, just to gamble on RWD F-Type Rs magically appreciating many years down the road would be certifiably insane.

There will be plenty of RWD R's on the market to snap up relatively cheap within the next few years. Then you can sit on it for the next 20 years or so, and wait for Barrett-Jackson 2040 . . . LOL.

 

Here in Australia, my F Type R included the following on purchase:
Stamp Duty (a state tax): $12,605
Goods and Sales Tax (federal): $18,037
Luxury Car Tax (federal): $43,956

So in total, I've paid $74,598 in tax just to drive it out the door. And I can never recover that tax on re-sale. In other words - my car has depreciated nearly $75k on day 1 of ownership.

Wow! And I thought CA was bad. But your right, you can't let depreciation scare you off, new cars aren't a good investment, buy and enjoy.

Ouch! Here is the US you could pretty much buy a base F-Type for something close to the amount you paid in taxes alone on the 'R'. Sounds like the LCT has to go! Read an article where the point was made that the LCT acts as a barrier to free trade between Australia and Japan (and everywhere else), which was quite a valid argument for reducing it...

Yes, the LCT was supposedly there to protect our local car manufacturing (read General Motors Holden, Ford and Toyota - none genuinely Australian). All have closed their plants in the last three years, so the LCT now has no valid reason for remaining (and probably no valid reason for being in the first place, since it encouraged our local industry to be complacent to the point of being globally uncompetitive). It's now just a cash cow for the government.

It's not really a barrier to free trade with Japan, as it only kicks in around $58k retail price, and Japan sells a lot of models here for less than that threshold.

 

Wow, that's expensive!

At least you're not in Singapore; an R coupe over there is over $500k.
