Default Will VAP downpipes/exhaust effect the snap crackle pop?

Hi all, I plan on purchasing an f type R shortly into next year and am looking for a little help/advice.

I fell in love with the car when I first saw one, and had to have one once I heard it rawr. Since researching and learning about them, and the update to 2017- models removing a lot of the snap crackle pop of the exhaust, I’ve got just a couple questions. Note that I don’t have any extra love for a certain model year, but I am leaning towards the 14/15/16 solely for the roaring and crackling exhaust.

Will putting VAP downpipes and exhaust bring back the pops in 2017+ models?

Will putting VAP downpipes/exhaust lessen the pops on the pre 17 models?

thanks for any help and I can’t wait to be on the road with you guys

If you have had your ECU updated by the factory so that it does not pop and crackle as much, an exhaust really won't change that. However VAP can sell you a tune that gives you all that back, and more if you want it. Adding high flow cats, updated pipes and muffler WILL make those pops much louder. I have high flow cats and the stock muffler and it is pretty ridiculous sometimes

Thanks for a quick reply I’m not too interested in a tune for more power, but a tune for going back to the original exhaust sound would be helpful if needed. Are you aware of any one that sells these?

It will absolutely make the pops louder. I had a 2016 R with the downpipes and quicksilver catback system, very loud. I have a stock 2018 R now and the pops are just as crazy as my 2016 was when it was stock. I haven't gotten any software updates by the dealer though.

Burbles, crackles, pops, whatever you want to call them..... are generated by the ECU controlling fuel on over-run. That's it.

Changing the downpipes doesn't alter what the ECU is doing, however it does amplify (or muffle) what is being generated.

It is old-americana folk talk from the 2024's. The post, comment, and likely all the original posters have long since passed on into legend.

" I haven't gotten any software updates by the dealer though" "I have either declined, refused, or neglected to allow the dealership to install newer software versions that removed the pops/crackles"

George Washington explained it best.
