It seems that just plugging the tube that goes to the firewall would be sufficient rather than removing the entire symposer. Am I missing anything?

That is my "symposer defeat" method. I created a thread on that years ago. It's literally a two minute process. Actually removing it is a pain with the supercharger still in place, but if you do have things that far apart then removing it will clean up the rear of the engine and make other maintenance easier.

Agreed, but removing it seems a bit overkill when a cork/plug will do the trick

Overkill? That's a judgement call. I kept mine in place but defeated for years. I did finally remove it and no longer have it lurking as an affront to my sensibilities. Oh, and because mine is a V6 I can now change my supercharger oil in minutes.
