Default 01 XJ8 to 97 XJ6 Vanden Plas engine swap?

SO I pretty much trashed the body of my 2001 Jaguar XJ8 over memorial day weekend running off the road due to a blow out. But a neighbor has a non running 1997 XJ 6 Vanden plas he said I could have for $100 dollars! (I am buying it either way, 4.0 straight 6 YaY!) But if I could I want to know could I swap my V8 in my 2001 and transmission into the 1997 Vanden Plas?

This could mean some major welding I am OK with that but if I am cutting into the cabin and redoing the whole cabin to make it work then it is more than I want to get into.

The wiring looms, ECM, TCM and many other items are quite different between the X300 and X308. It would be far easier to locate a non-running X308 if you intend to swap over the engine.

+1

It would be a challenging project switching the electronics but the big issue is the final result (an X300 V8) will be hard to sell if you later decide to move on.

Thanks much!
Yes, the resale wouldn't be there but I would have no plans for that! I have driven my 01 daily for the last 7 years and love it!

I would buy an X308 needing engine work and swap your engine in, like already suggested. Then purchase the '97 and get it running too.
