Default 2010 XF Rear Brake Replacement

Hello all, thank you for reading this and I appreciate any advice on how to handle my current dilemma.

My uncle has a 2010 XF 5.0 N/A that I am replacing the pads on. I have quite a bit of experience with cars (roughly 15 years) in general but I am super stumped right now on how to proceed. I replaced all the pads (discs are in great shape, car has 23k). I used a piston retractor to push the piston into the caliper, the passenger side went fine but the driver side is being extremely stubborn. I am a little confused as to why the piston on driver side (left hand drive) rear is not seating all the way back into the caliper. I have done some looking around online and some research and see conflicting information on how the electric e-brake is disabled. If anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it. The closest dealer won't touch the car because it is over 10 years old and the only shop that said they would handle the work wanted $2,800 to change it out and while I completely understand and respect mechanics, almost $3,000 for a pad replacement just seems absolutely insane.

Thank you,

Deric.

Welcome to the forums Deric,

I agree that $3000 is excessive. Clearly quoted to discourage you because they didn't want the job. Did you PUSH the pistons back or WIND them back? Rotation is essential as they are pressed into the caliper body.

Got the issue sorted, I had double checked that the e-brake was off before I started and I guess my uncle re-engaged it. Thank you.

Good to hear it was a simple solution and not a seized piston.
