3 year storage
About 3 years ago and had to store my 2000 XK8 on short notice. Stored in a garage. Gas tank was filled. Battery tender was set up and has been in service the entire time. I am looking for any pre-start advice on what to check or actions to take, aside from checking fluid levels, before turning the key. Thanks
Unless the fuel was treated with a stabilizer, I'd siphon out as much as I could and fill with fresh fuel. I might be tempted to do that anyway even with fuel stabilizer. But before starting, I'd pull the fuel pump relay and spin it over for a minute to be sure the oil pump is primed, bearings and rings lubricated. Be aware tho that the fuel pump itself may be seized. I had my engine out for about nine months and found my pump seized when I put it back together and tried to start it. Then I read several similar stories on this forum so apparently its not unusual for the fuel pumps to seize from long periods of non-use.
Gday Steve,
I had my 1995 XJ12 off the road for just over three years sometime ago with only half a tank of fuel and no stabilizer. When I went to get it going again I installed a new battery, topped up all the fluids, though not the fuel, and cranked the engine over with the IGN disabled to fill the oil system.
I then tried it with the IGN active and with fingers crossed and it started right up and idled smoothly. I was amazed.
I let it run up to temp and after checking it for leaks took it for a run around the local backstreets and everything worked perfectly with the only issue being all four tyres were very low on air so I topped them up and all was good.
This is just for info and in no way any sort of recommendation.
Cheers,
Jeff.
