99 xj8 vander plas
How's it going everybody? I just got a new to me 1999 XJ8 Vanderplas the other day for a pretty good deal. It's in great shape but is in need of a new radiator. I'm having trouble finding one online other than a genuine Jaguar rad which is running around $1,000!! So my question is are there any radiators from other model jaguars that will fit that may be cheaper? Thanks for your help
Jagman88, in short, you have to get one from an XJ that is between 98 and 03. There are no options that I am aware of other than what I say. If you look on e-bay, there are a very few on there running about $250 delivered to your house (assuming you are in the US). But, based on the lack of availability, that kinda tells me that there is an inherent problem with the factory ones that shows up many years later. So, it may be in your best interest to spend the extra money and get a new radiator. The other option you may want to consider is if you live near a large city, look for say a performance shop and ask if they will rebuild a radiator. What they are going to do is pull out the coiling coils and cut new ones to fit in there and then seal it all back up. Not sure what it would cost, but you have a change of it being much less than the factory Jag part. They may even be able to custom fabricate a radiator that would fit. You would just need to give them some dimensions from the car and what size (and location) that the cooling hoses connect. From there, they build a whole radiator from parts. You may be surprised as to what this would cost. Not as much as you think. This may even allow you to get an extra row of coiling coils to make the radiator just that much more efficient in cooling the car.
