Default Catalytic Converter Configuration

Why does my Jaguar 3.0 V6 Diesel has only one catalytic converter?

Default It's 2013 XF LHD.

Catalytic converter is only on the left V6 cylinder bank exhaust. It should have two, or?

oeko-k, the setup of your car (atleast based on the manual that I have for a 2013 XJ) shows that you should have a catalytic converter on each exhaust header. This may be hard to see as they are tucked up against the firewall and you only see the elbow at the bottom of the cat sticking out the bottom. From there, the left and right sides should go to a common filter (this is your DPF - Dirt Particulate Filter). From there, to a resonator and then split again to your 2 mufflers. The DPF and resonator are going to be pretty obvious if you look under the car.

To not have 2 cats would not be good on the engine as this would cause an imbalance to the power that the engine makes, leading to long term engine wear. This would also violate the clean air act in your area as it relates to diesel engines.

Welcome to the forums oeko-k,

The X250 Diesel complies with EU-5 emission standards. There is a single catalytic converter in the LH bank but only a temperature sensor in the RH bank. Both banks feed into a common DPF before branching again to separate LH and RH rear silencers.

As you are probably aware, European manufacturers have had difficulties complying with increasingly stringent emission standards. The cat plays less of a role in engine management in the X250 than the DPF.

I asked this same question many years ago, in respect of my 2010 XFS.
I too thought it strange that only the LHS downpipe had a cat converter in it and nothing on the RHS.
I remember a reply that there is a secondary cat converter in the frond end of the DPF container.
