Default Catalytic converter

my 1988 xjs has a bad catalytic converter. My buddy is selling me his 1989 xjs cat (35,000 miles on it). Will that work in my 1988. Are they the same.

Gah! Yours is a tricky example.

The parts catalog *does* show different part numbers for the convertors (you have four on your car, not one) for 1988 vs. 1989 cars.

Whether the difference is significant or not, I can't say. I've spent time underneath both model years and I don't recall any difference....but I wasn't specifically looking for a difference, either.

My gut feeling is that the differences are minor and they'll interchange

Hopefully someone who knows more will chime in.

Cheers
DD

I saw that my car has 4 catalytic converter. Can I remove 1 on each side and just have two catalytic converter (1 on each side) after the o2 sensor ?
