Default Complimentary Scheduled Maintenance question

I bought my '16 XF new in May 2016; I now have 12,000 miles on it. I scheduled my first service (oil change, etc) since the website says the maintenance schedule is 16,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. However, the local dealer is saying the 16,000 miles applies, NOT the 12 months - basically, 16,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes LATER. I tried to contact Jaguar USA but had to leave a message. I don't want to miss the service that I paid for in the price of the car - the dealer is saying if I want to service it now, I would have to pay for it. They are saying I need to come back at 16,000 miles to not have to pay for the service. That likely won't be for another 4 months. Does this sound right to those on this forum?

This is from Jaguar TOPIx - Passport to Service document for the 2016MY XF. I've highlighted the relevant section with a red box:

Your dealer appears to be in a minority of one.

Thank you. The information you posted is consistent with what is on Jaguar's website. I'm going to keep pushing them to do the service now, at one year but only 12k miles.

Failing that call jag corp. Might ask dealer to put refusal in writing (email counts) first so you have solid evidence.

I wonder what part of 'whichever occurs first' is confusing them

They completed the service, but "as a courtesy"; the service rep is adamant that it wasn't yet due. I sent an email to the dealership's business manager; we'll see what he has to say. I suspect that the service rep (who told me he recently moved from sales to service) is simply mistaken and that he didn't really check with anyone else even though he claimed he did. I want to make sure this gets cleared up so I don't have to deal with the same hassle next year when the 2 year service is due.

A newbie in the service drive can really muck things up.

Cheers
