You'd think that autoboxes in our Jags. are pretty troublesome if past postings and responses are anything to go by, but our experiences seem to be minor compared to problems out there with CVT* transmissions, if the reports are to be believed.
It seems many of these are failing around the 50,000mile mark and no-one around has the experience to fix. A new box is advised -- and the price?
Anywhere between $5000 and $9000!
Come back ZF, all is forgiven...

Yes, they can be trouble. Wife had a Roer 25 with Van Doorne CVT transmission. It started to whine loudly and autotransmission specialist advised us to actually leave the car there and walk home !

It was a bearing inside the box, but fortunately because we brought the car in quickly, it was possible to replaced bearing only. If bearing had broken up, it would have been Goodbye Gearbox apparently.

Wife now has New Beetle with traditional autobox.

Incidentally, the Van Doorne company was bought by, guess who?, Yes, our old friends ZF !!! I hope this is not a bad omen.
