Default Engineering test mode.

Running thru' this today using the ign key, stalk and buttons to see what was in there, I found the following:--

PCM 3B 2A80 81
TCM 02 42

Now I've searched the site for the meanings of these entries (I understand PCM means Power Control Module and TCM means Transmission Control Module). My guess is that these two entries mean the type number of the module fitted, not any kind of fault code. Would this be right?

Leedsman, the PCM number is as I recall the version of the ECM software you have and the date that the software was installed with the date in a hexadecimal value. As for the TCM, that is the date that the TCM was installed in the car with the date in a hexadecimal form.

I am in the process of trying to learn what each line of the engineering test code is. Some of them are pretty obvious (ie, batt 14.8), but most of them I can not figure out what they are meaning. I'm trying to collect as much data as I can on this and will be putting it here on the forums for all to use and learn about their cars. So, if you have any info relating to this, please pass it on and I will get it updated here on the site.

I have another thread started on this subject in this same area of the site.

Muchas gracias Thermo, I shall pass on a printout to my mechanic. I would mention that because of this website, I seem to know more about this matter than he does! Inevitably, we are going to call in a specialist (NOT a Jaguar dealer, too expensive) that he knows well so we can find out what the software is saying about the gearbox. My mechanic's own OBD2 analyser reveals no faults, despite the car once going into " restricted performance" as shown on the LCD readout in car after an episode of vibration, I think from the gearbox. Thanks again.
