Just how much am I going to get reamed at the dealer for an extended warrantee? I've got a 2003 s-type with 67k. Am I still even eligible for an extended warranty?

YOu will probably be able to get some sort of warranty, but with a 9 year old car it may be expensive. However the fairly low mileage is on your side, as most warranties will not cover beyond 100k miles. Almost all these warranties are insurance policies, so when you clim, they go through it with a fine toothcomb to see if they can exclude anything. Other thing is cost; you have to balance paying out and keeping the money in the bank.

 

One thing to bear in mind about aftermarket extended warrantys is that they usually exclude leaking seals. That is one of the most likely failures (water pump, A/C compressor, transmission, etc.) and it won't be covered!
