Default Gear Selector

Hi guys, my 2012/2013 XJ/X351 gear selector rises correctly on start-up - BUT - does not move out of park or neatral.
Have to switch off, start again and again and again and eventually moves into drive. ANY IDEAS ?

Prior to conducting any further diagnosis, check available voltage.

Use a voltmeter to check the available battery voltage across the terminals with the ignition in the OFF position. There should be a minimum of 12.6 volts available for all modules to function correctly. If there's less than 12.6 volts showing on the voltmeter, charge the battery for five hours at 2 to 5 amps and retest. Anything less than 12.6 volts means the battery is suspect and should be replaced.

Many electrical 'gremlins' are caused by a failing or weak battery.
