Ignition light
What is the ignition warning light on a 1971 series 1 XJ6 for.
The light stays on for a few moments after I have started the vehicle and then goes out.
Is that normal?

It is based on the charge excitement of the alternator.
It is "normal" for it to glow at idle after starting, and goes out as the alternator "kicks in". I usually blip the throttle a tad, just to get the alternator all excited and charging.
Of course, a lazy/dying alternator will do the same thing.
Sooooo get the charge rate checked of that alternator, an auto electrician is the best for that task.

Tell the truth. You blip the throttle to get yourself all excited and charging.
