key programming
When i had my keys made by a locksmith he told me i was missing an antenna under my ignition lock cylinder.. then told m that due to this my car doesnt require a programmed key..knowing that this cannot be true (1996 xj6) Is there a way I can program my key or am i stuck bringing the car (towing it) and the keys to the dealership to have it programmed?
I am asking this because it is my only logical explanation to both my fuel and spark not working at the same time...when everything in the entire car works like brand new.. it seems odd that they both dont work out of all the possible issues these cars can have.. and I think I read that an unprogrammed key will cause the ignition and fuel delivery to not function
Does the engine crank over? It was my understanding (but not absolute knowledge) that the proper key code was required to even crank the starter. Perhaps others can enlighten us.
Dumb question, perhaps, but what happened to an original, working key?
