Default NO Parts???

Is it that hard to get parts for a 2001 Vanden Plas? All mechanics told me not to buy. It doesn't have anything wrong right now but it also has 180000.

Help please.

May depend where you are - you failed to say - and whether they know anything.

Will you DIY at least basic things? Not cheap otherwise.

This is General Tech Help but that is a VERY general question! Your Location will determine the best sources.

Large trim parts such as seats are always the first to disappear from Jaguar inventory less than ten years after a model goes out of production followed by plastic trim. Small plastic items can be hard to find and often frighteningly expensive when they are available.

New body panels will mostly be unavailable but there is always a good supply of good used ones from Jaguar breakers.

Both Jaguar and aftermarket specialist suppliers (check our forum Sponsors and Vendors) carry engine, transmission, brakes and steering parts. No difficulty doing anything from an oil change to a full rebuild.

If you are considering having a mechanic do your maintenance and repairs, the Jaguar owning experience will be an expensive one. Parts are not cheap and specialised marque knowledge brings big labour bills.

I expect the forum sponsors would be happy to sell parts to you!

Sounds like the mechanics just don't want to deal with it. There are plenty of them around, and I get filters for mine locally....

Have a look here. This is one of the larger spares suppliers covering all Jaguar models. They ship to the USA

https://www.sngbarratt.com/uk/#!/Eng.../43/all/1/10/1

Jaguar main agents in the USA won't be all that keen to find parts for you. There are also USA-based suppliers.

You really need to get your post transferred to the X308 forum.
