Red LED next to shifter - What does it indicate?

Default Red LED next to shifter - What does it indicate?
My 99 xk8 has a parasitic draw and this light stays on. (see attachment) Does anyone know what this light is for?

On my 97 it comes on and stays on when I press the alarm button
