MIchael, what you need is based on the year of your car. based on what you have in your profile, the 1988 unit will not have what is needed to use SDD. The 1988 car does not have an OBD port as it is using the older protocol of OBD-1 (not OBD-II which was started to be used in 1996).

Now, your 2003 will need the SDD software and I would get the latest that you can. They stopped updating the SDD in 2017 because they have moved on to yet another program (Do not recall the name of it). So, what you ask is somewhat of a loaded question. In your case, you may need potentially 2 programs and a good multimeter (for the 1988 unit as you can get the codes by simply watching a multimeter pulse, an analog multimeter is best for this).

If you need more specifics, please let me know. Please give some more data to help narrow down what we are looking at.

Good info from Thermo as always. Pathfinder has replaced SDD (Symptom Driven Diagnosis).

Also SDD is a big subject and we several very long and detailed threads about it. There is a learning curve and I don't know how good you are with software? I found it a battle but I do have a working version and it has MORE than paid for itself. Of course there is not a lot of cost because SDD was never released to the public and this is the biggest problem because there is little to no documentation and nobody to ask questions when you have problems.

So we learn from each other and from our mistakes. But no doubt it's the most powerful software for our Jaguars.

MIchael, then it sounds like you are going to need a good laptop, a Mongoose Pro cable (make sure it is for a Jaguar as there are many versions of this cable), and then you will need the software. I just bought a copy of the software that the e-bay seller installs it on your computer as part of the cost for around $110. A cable is going to run you around $150. Then your laptop may be something that you have laying about the house already. Just make sure that the laptop is capable of running the software.

The SDD will work on your cars between 1996 and 2017. Not much that you can do with the older cars as they were not necessarily software based and were more hardwired with whatever features that they could perform. The newer cars, you can get in and alter stuff. Just a warning though, do a lot of research and play A LOT!!!! SDD is not the more straight forward of programs and learning where all the features are hidden is a challenge. We are trying to put that information out on this site, but if you learn something that you haven't seen, make sure to pass on the info for others to use.
