Starter motor bendix spring
Can anyone point me in the right direction to find a replacement spring as mine has decided to break in two places. The car is a 1934 daimler 20hp lq3 and parts are a bit difficult to find
Thanks

Not sure up there.
Some thoughts are:
Old school "Auto Electrical" shops. Those guys hoard worse than anybody I know.
A Spring Maker. Again, maybe an older school operation, should be able to wind that fairly easily.
Good luck.

What would be useful is if someone could explain what the spring does. I think it's acting as a buffer when the pinion gets thrown out of engagement with the flywheel - but I could be wrong.
The starter is a Rotax unit (now Bombardier). Has anyone got a drawing, manual, or any info on it?

This looks a possible source for a spring of the right dimensions:
Replacement Drive Bendix Units from Uk Supplier Moto-Electrical - Moto Electrical
If you say it's for a 1934 Daimler, that should get their attention!

Hi all, the daimler roared into life this Sunday morning after 40 years of laying idle, the engine had been fully re-built way back but had never been run, after the incident with lack of info and the bendix fighting all the way but with the help of all who gave me support and advice we achieved the first and major hurdle facing the recommisioning of the old girl. Jim Forrest and his son (many thanks) joined me for the final fettlling and the failed search for the NON existing timing marks, however dispute this a manual pump on the fuel pump and tickling the carb float plunger got her to fire and run without even completing a full revolution. Needless to say I am really chuffed and again great teamwork from within the forum has helped with getting this important car back on the road. Thanks Den
