Valve Lifters
Are you referring to the XK engine or one of the AJ engine variants?
Since all Jaguar engines from the late 1940s have been overhead cam designs, the cams act directly on the valves through tappet buckets with adjustable tappets.

As far as I know, none of the straight-six engines (XK and AJ) ever used hydraulic lifters, they were all solid with shim adjustment. Later engines like the 3-litre Ford V6 and later ones under Tata Motors may, of course, be different.
Agreed,
ALL the info I have access to, lists "tappet shim-adjustment" for ALL the engines, I6, V6, V8, V12, up to and including the latest 5.0;ltr, in the XK nnd XF/XJ cars. Does NOT show the 4cyl things, or the Diesels.
Many different thicknesses available, just like the good old days.
I like shims, hydraulic just means more SMALL things to go wrong.
