Hi (newbie)
I have an XJ8 X350, 2004, 3.5L SE. based in Bangor, Wales UK
I have looked through threads but can appear to find a definitive answer.
The passenger door interior lock snapped open a few weeks ago (long bottom handle). I gave the latch a knock and managed to get the door open, but broken the internal part in the process. I have sourced and fitted an new handle but when I have put everything back together even the new lock has pulled passed where it is supposed to and the deadlock stuck on again.
I have managed to get the card back off and free the lock without damage this time but can anyone advise what the issue will be? The cable looks ok, the latch itself opens and closes when pulling the cable but when all pout back together it just deadlocks. All central locking working fine etc....
Any advice greatly received
I've managed to take off the secondary door card and locate the actuator/ latch. After further digging it is apparent the actuator is knackered. I have had to source a replacement.
what a fiddly job this is and not a cheap fix either.
awaiting new part which hopefully will be easier to put back together than our was to pull apart
Your X350 is a similar design principle to my X150 where the door release cable emerges through the inner door panel in a sleeve.
The first time I had the door apart on my X150, I thought I'd put it back EXACTLY as I'd removed it but then found the handle was sticking. The positioning of the cable/sleeve appears to be critical in achieving a smooth door handle release.
It could be a stretched cable or you may have too much tension on the lock and the cable sleeve needs moving to give some slack.
Hi
I have repaired and replaced a number of door actuators on my Jag
and have found that they can be repaired with a replacement micro switch.
It is difficult to tell exactly what the problem with yours is at present so
please post again after you have fitted the new actuator if you still have a problem.
I suggest that maybe the x350 section would be the better forum
BTW Bangor is my original home town and my brother still lives there.
