XJ8L wont start, wierd problem
I am working on a friends XJ8L, it has had a intermittent issue for some time, it would occasionally when started display "Engine failsafe mode" and basically just run at idle, no throttle response, turn car off and restart, it would run fine, no dtc codes stored. recently in the past few months it has been harder to start, some times taking two or three times to start, once started it would run fine, again no dtc's, I checked fuel pressure, it was only about 12-15 lbs, so I changed the fuel pump, now got 40-45 lbs, it started better than ever, drove it around for a couple days, ran perfect, then let it sit for a couple days, went to start, just cranks, but wont fire, so I rechecked fuel pressure, still 40-45 lbs, tried starting it several times, thru out the day, cranks normally but no start, this time it threw a p0560 dtc, so I checked some voltages at the pcm , nothing out of range, unplugged pcm connectors, and reconnected, car started and ran fine, so even though all connections looked fine, I sprayed them with electrical contact cleaner, car ran fine for 2 days, then I let it sit over the weekend, Monday morning no start again, and hasn't started since,(for over a week now), I have tried unplugging the pcm again, conn all look perfect, batt and ign voltages to pcm all seem correct, no dtc's,
I am suspecting the PCM, but not sure enough to condemn it yet
any IDEAS??????
thanks.....................Don
